You can interview for MD/PhD again in your first year if interested, we have had a few students get in while in first year!

I think some people can manage to graduate without being fully NaCl, but as a CC3 now my salt levels are exponentially rising.....

Reading back on it, I decided to actually delete it. So much has changed in my life, and my story is so different now. If anyone in the future wants to hear my non trad story, just PM me!

Good on you Inspired!!!!! I was waiting to see you post this!! And trust me, medicine is all about HARD WORK, you will do great in school!!! You have put in the necessary time and dedication to get in, just put in the same amount of time and effort in school and you will do fine!

Thank you so much f_d :-) this comment means a lot to me :-) I wish my grandmother could have seen me get in...she would have been SO proud. I almost dreaded telling my parents...i wasn't excited to share good news with them because I didn't want them thinking it was due to any part of their "support" Yes aaron, that was the crux of the problem for me, that it was really hard for me to change my bad habits i.e. quick temper, yelling during arguments, etc. I thought that behaviour was NORMAL because that's all I knew! But I've been very committed to changing myself and am a 100% better person for engaging in so much introspection and self reflection. I've read a lot about how to change ingrained bad behaviour and what was exciting is that I found that it is possible (and I am proof). It takes a lot of mental strength to do this though but I am the person I want to be now, not a reflection of my parents.

Very very true. I was borderline competitive so I feel if I didn't do my MSc, I would never have scored an interview in Canada. However, if you are like some peers in my lab with a 3.0 average....grad studies just to boost your chance of getting in is not a viable option. A second degree is better. and PS: please don't go into grad studies to fill time, you will be stressed out and depressed. Go in if you genuinely see yourself wanting to investigate problems and learn how to do science!!

From my own story: Completed a 4 year Bachelors of Science Finished a 2 years Masters of Science Currently on a gap year now that I finished my MSc (and am employed at a hospital doing research) 2 interviews this cycle (Mac and UofT) -- I really feel my MSc immensely helped me to score two interviews this cycle....I would have had NOTHING to put in the research category and I made so many connections and had so many unique opportunities. To anyone thinking of doing grad studies, I highly recommend it, especially if you luck out like me and go into a field with a lot of opportunities for collaboration and travel (medical imaging). From my grad studies: - three SOLID reference letters - papers - conferences - podium presentations - clinical placements - physician shadowing - grants - scholarships - position on grad student council - professional title/email address/physical address to put on emails, documents, etc. - use of office supplies I didn't have (free postage, label maker, colour printer, scanner, fax, etc.) to complete my application [yes I am poor lol so this was great]
