  1. Lots of interesting data for sure. The top 3 most competitive specialties is not a surprise. It is surprising that the ratios continue to increase and they have reached new highs in terms of how competitive they are. Overall, it seems the trend in recent years is that CaRMS is getting tougher. That is before the additional 25 spots are cut in Ontario next yr. Will be interesting to see how things shake out. I wonder if future policy decisions will need to be made to improve the situation if things continue to get harder over the next several years.
  2. I would also like to call this into question because I have heard that pathologists are in demand.
  3. I have updated the stats for the 2015 year! File uploaded to original Dropbox Link. Top 3 most competitive specialties for 2015: 1) Dermatology 2) Plastics 3) Emergency. Same 3 as 2014 but different order.
  4. Thought this might be interesting to everyone. I took the stats from the CARMS match process and generated a first choice discipline to quota ratio. This ratio is used to roughly gauge how competitive a specialty is. If the ratio is 2.0 then there were 2 applicants that listed that discipline as their first choice for every 1 seat that was available in that discipline. In other words, the higher the ratio, the more competitive the specialty. I took the past five years and put them side by side so people can look at how things may be changing. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nct7mt9h7pjy7ap/2017 Year by Year Comparison of First Choice to Quota Ratios.png?dl=0 Note: I uploaded it to dropbox because the image dimensions are too big to upload to the forum. Edit May.28.2015: Stats updated for this year! Edit June.19.2016: Updated for 2016. Edit July 4.2017: Updated for 2017.
