Kinda shocked also to see so many psychiatry positions, including at U of T!! Looks it wasn't a competitive year for psych

Hey guys, I am wondering what residents with OMA disability insurance are doing now that all the discounts for residents are gone? I was shocked to see the annual premium increase by $1k compared to last year with all the 75% discounts gone. Are you guys sticking with OMA? Personally, I am planning to cancel and maybe look into RBC instead... Really sucks :(

You need to write both parts before you graduate residency. It's best to write the part I before you graduate but it's not required to graduate from medical school. I would suggest you write at the end of April or beginning of May. Start studying part-time while you are finishing up your selectives and then give yourself a week or two to study full-time and you should be good. I studied for around one month total (2 weeks part time during my last selective and then I think 2 weeks full-time) and it was more than enough to pass this annoying exam. It's nice to give yourself a good 2 months to enjoy before starting residency, as you won't get this time again. Good luck!

The UWorld Step 2 CK was the question bank I used and I would highly recommend for brushing up on your knowledge. I used it to practice questions in psych, public health and ethics, peds, and OB+GYN. It is designed for USMLE step 2. Ah and I forgot to mention that I didn't study for psych (just did UWorld practice questions) as that's the specialty I applied to and did electives in. Studied for around 1 month in total, which included 3 weeks full-time studying at home after finishing my selectives.

Found out I passed the exam today, though I felt like I may have failed walking out of it. Such a bizarre exam. I thought the MCQ portion was kind of okay, but there was just not enough time, and I was scrambling to finish it. HATED the CDM despite having ample time, as it felt like no amount of studying could have prepared me for it and that I basically had to guess what the examiner for thinking. To the poster asking for advice, here's what I used to study based on suggestions here, which I thought was adequate for me: latest TN for population health+ethics and OB/GYN, my clerkship notes/book for peds. Quickly read over Pastena's for surgery. Read through some of my clerkship notes for IM but this was lowest on my priority. UWorld for practice questions - they have the best explanations (which helps you to review important concepts), and I didn't want to shell over $$$ for the MCC sample questions. Other suggestions: sleep well and rest the night before and really manage your time well for MCQ.

Hey guys, I'm in second year of preclerkship and am seriously starting to consider psych for residency. I know that historically psych hasn't been a very competitive field to match into, but I was wondering how I could increase my chances of getting accepted anyway. I obviously plan on doing electives and such in psych in 4th year. If anyone in psych (or particularly McGill psych) could share their experiences and how they made themselves competitive for a psych residency, that would be great! Any input is appreciated!
