  1. Hi all, do you know if you residents can claim conference fees as tax credit? If so, where on the tax form does this apply to? Thanks!
  2. They are a Canadian Citizen who went abroad to medical school. Finished medical school roughly a year and a half ago. Currently not practicing in any clinical setting. Didn't want to take the USMLE's as hoping to try the CaRMS process first before ERAS/NRMP. Good grades in medical school, on practice NBME's, MCC practice tests. Pursuing masters thesis at the moment.... Overall, a good candidate with a competitive application but limited by the MCC exam. Do you have any suggestions/ideas to why candidates fail the MCCQE Part 1 in the first place? Trying to identify an area of weakness that maybe this individual has not recognized as of yet which is limiting their performance....
  3. Wondering if anyone can provide some advice for a Canadian IMG applicant who reached out to me. This individual is looking to apply to CaRMS, but unfortunately, has not been able to do so since they have failed the MCCQE Part 1 twice. Seems like they were under prepared when they wrote the exam the first time. For the second attempt, the individual studied for over four months using UWorld Step 2 CK questions, Toronto notes, and the MCC prep examinations online with good results. Despite this though, they still failed (by only several points). Since four attempts of the MCCQE Part 1 are allowed, this individual is very nervous about writing it again. I have recommended completing the USMLE's but I don't know what else to offer? Can an IMG apply to medical school in Canada? Does this pathway exist? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Does anyone have any good recommendations for compression socks?
  5. Will the MCC take into consideration disconnections or unforeseen interruptions when marking? It is already unfair that candidates are forced to do these examinations in non-ideal test taking environments,, and I can imagine a disconnection or interruption will cause more stress mid-examination
  6. Has anyone had any difficulty with taking the QE1 examination remotely? Asking for a friend who is looking for advice/suggestions/feedback from others experience with taking a board examination at home. Thanks!
  7. Have you completed the qe1 yet? I'm just curious cause my partner is trying to book hers but with covid, it has been impossible
  8. Quick question, my friend is trying to book her QE1 but she noticed Prometric changed her eligibility period to January 2021 - December 2021 - have any of you noticed this? If so, does prometric change it if you provide proof that your original eligibility period was from Jan 2020 - Dec 2020? Also, is May 21st for those who have previously booked a test date or for those who do not have a test date as of yet.... Thanks!
  9. Hi, I am wondering if there any forum members completing their residency at UBC/VGH who could pass on any advice regarding living near VGH vs. commuting to VGH. I am originally from Vancouver, and I have the option to live at home for residency. I am roughly an 8min drive to both VGH and UBCH. As a way to save money and curb the cost of living, I plan to live at home and drive to VGH. I have access to a personal car but, I am tempted to use EVO Car-Share instead to avoid paying for on-site parking. Does anyone have any experience in regards to using EVO and the long-term cost differences between EVO and a personal car? Thanks.
  10. Given the impact of covid on Prometric centres globally, I am wondering if anyone has any insight regarding whether candidates will be able to write the MCCQE1 prior to entering CaRMS next year? I am asking on behalf of a friend who is hoping to complete their exam in July/August but cannot schedule a test-date since there are none available on the Prometric booking site for the next six months. Has anyone been able to schedule a test date? Thanks.
