  1. My favorite is the one month research elective. Not only will you be able to see another province, you could probably see all of them. Also, you are allowed to do 8 weeks worth of research apparently. Otherwise, I loved peds psych at BC Childrens Hospital!
  2. In general, how content focused do the questions get (i.e will I need to know the relatively fine or obscure details)? Or are they almost all centered around application and clinical scenarios?
  3. During the town hall this year, if I remember correctly, the program director mentioned that ~1/3 of selected residents (from CaRMS 2022) did their MD at UBC.
  4. Totally feel the same! Not feeling too good about my back-up programs either after coming across a recent post on another site that starts with R and ends with t about physicians quitting/shutting down their clinics.
  5. Oh totally forgot about that (and didn't end up attending). I think you're right then.
  6. Did anyone get a Queens FM newsletter recently (when you click why am I receiving this, it lists you as a faculty contact) without having an interview result?
  7. Yup, seems like the order of results isnt based on last name or date written.
  8. I received advice from a resident in my program of interest to group by relevance. Currently my organization looks like: [Specialty Elective][Location][Duration] [Elective related to specialty] ... ... [Unrelated Electives] ... ... I'm sure, in the end, this all does not really matter much. Personally, I found organization by relevance easier on the eyes and anticipate that there will be less mental effort needed by reader to filter out relevant information.
  9. For some specialties (also location dependant), it is very hard to find research opportunities. Here are some tips regarding research as someone gunning for a competitive program: 1) You can go to staff and residents with proposed projects in mind and I have found that they are usually more receptive to supervising you than having to think of an entire project anew. 2) Identify the upper year gunners in your year and find the staff physicians that they work with. Shoot them an email. 3) Do not underestimate working over Zoom with out of province or out of country staff. I have several projects with staff several provinces away. 4) Pubs are not easy- maximize your output by submitting to conferences before submitting the manuscript. There is a chance your paper takes a good 7 months. Start multiple projects at once if you can, some big and some small. 5) Learn how to conduct a systematic review and systematic review with meta analysis. These can be done quite fast and are generally well received.
