  1. No, have met a few whom are not. Not in path but have had path residents rotate through our service.
  2. Generally do classes for the MCC exam and chill a bit. May do make up time for rotations they missed too much time due to sickness or whatever. Those that wrote the MCC in the fall had a very chill time. Was honestly a great time with minimal worry. Well other then carms interviews and waiting for match day.
  3. Big thing on Twitter for weeks. No residents or students can vote, convenient eh? But staff physicians and multiple organizations have been against this and the CFPC is bulldozing through all of it and acting like they’re the omnipotent gods in the matter, it’s actually quite surreal to see.
  4. As someone who considered surgery and ended up non-surgical in their 30s, something to consider is your life outside of work. residency is busy, but some can be extremely busy and take up your life. It is a different ball game then med school, both with responsibility, burn-out, and lack of sleep and time for things/people you enjoy. Think deep about these things I would say, but ultimately up to you how you want your life to be. 5-7 years has its toll. Best of luck on your CaRMS journey.
  5. Agreed, having had a previous career to medical training/residency, many a time I long for the work life balance and enjoyment of life outside work that residency/medical training/medicine in general can snuff out, and this is coming from someone who constantly is trying to do things with my partner, friends, family, and personal time outside of studying, prepping for clinics, on-call, and just the general stress of the job. Try it out, see where this masters takes you, you will more than likely be pleasantly surprised with how life and your perspective may change. But if it never leaves your mind, the dentistry dream, then do what you must to get there.
  6. Oh this gotta be so far off base. I remember my staff working 10ish hour days at least, PLUS weekend rounding. So working close to 70/week while on service, but that's just one centre at one site, at an academic area. Need an internal resident to chime in here.
  7. 1) Yes some people travel during april and may, and june as well. There may be online/inperson lectures re: the exam. Some people have rotations in the end of winter, Queens was done in Jan for me, but i think its still around then/Feb. Otherwise not really need to be around especially if done the MCC exam. 2) Some people in my class did the exam in the fall so they really had a chill spring, but most do in april/May. Wrote online as did most of my class, whether you do in an exam site or at home up to you, doesn't matter where your school is. whatever is more convenient for you. 3) Some people study and do the exam, actually most do. Travel once you're done the exam. Residency prep lol, no get your place for residency and relax, you'll be working hard for the next 2-5 years + fellowship, and rest of your career. 4) Some right away, some later, but most people are moved in by mid to late June to their new place unless they stayed at the same school then some stay in the same place.
  8. Agreed, 2+1 is the most common route iv seen at my centre and they’re damn well good and competent. Met a +2 IM fellow and they seemed to go that route just because they enjoyed some of the medicine aspects but didn’t want to do IM medicine in their career, but honestly you’re generally a consultant service not MRP. And the people you are MRP of are generally AND and not in an acute setting and not full code. But grain of salt this is just my limited experience of in and outpatient pall.
  9. Honestly it’s been fine with the foam. Some days it actually makes the hair nice and full and standing which is fun hah. Whatever works for you at the end of the day. What’s the cost of the 1mg fin these days, have been hesitant to get in that and have found pretty good success in the interim with the ‘gainz.
  10. The half test was good practice, didn’t want to spend for the whole thing. Just wanted to get practice under stress in similar conditions as the actuaL test which I found helpful. Up to your comfort level really.
  11. Hamilton is also not friendly rent wise. The more luxurious the condo/appt, the higher it’s going to be near the low 2000s. Also closer to downtown the more it usually is. If you live in the suburbs on the mountain it’s going to be in the mid to high teens. Parking not a super big problem to get. Kingston is high for what you’d expect but definitely the lowest of the 3, unless you’re away from the city core then closer to 1500 for solo appts. Parking in the core is the biggest luxury of all. And Toronto is… well Toronto.
  12. Depends, idk if it costs extra but if money is no issue, and you don't mind working there as a family doctor, then why not. You get job, essentially part of the GTA, and nice hospital IMO. Just need to be okay with working in that area as a family doctor, which I suppose is hard to know 6 years out of where you are now.
