  1. Hey everyone - most interview dates/times I've seen have been first come, first serve, but UBC psychiatry weren't. Anyone know how they handed them out?
  2. Anyone who is studying at the U of A medical school and applying psych know why there's such a delay this year? It'd be nice to be able to book flights...
  3. Thanks! It's what I thought, but just wanted confirmation. I've decided to go through another branch, and the specific advisor for medical/dent students rather than the advisor I had. He tried his best, but I really don't think he had done many of them before, because I knew more about what they could offer than he did
  4. Hey guys, Anyone know any good med advisors in Calgary? I'm currently with RBC but am not sure if I am going to stick with them. I went to the bank today and was told by their advisor that 99% of the time medical students have to have a cosigner to get an LOC. Given that I've heard from basically everyone that that's not the case and to never accept having a cosigner, I'm not sure what to think. I have a sit down meeting scheduled for tomorrow to go over the actual numbers and determine if that's the case for me specifically, but I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to explore my options elsewhere. Thanks everyone!
  5. Waitlisted. Was hoping for a decision one way or the other, but at least this way you know you're at least kind of close Congrats to all those that got accepted, and anyone who wasn't, keep your chin up! Accepted off waitlist: May 25th 9:23am. Will be declining in favour of Queens.
  6. You absolutely weren't. I tend to be pretty concise, so ended up using all of the prompts for the majority of the stations (there were 1 or 2 where I had a lot to say, and only got through about half of the prompts). A lot of the times I had already covered what the prompts were asking, but it gave me a chance restate it, or to cover what I had already said in a little bit more detail. As another poster said though, there are no penalties for using the prompts, so unless your original answers are totally inadequate, I don't think it's a bad thing at all. Haha, at least I hope so as at both the U of C and U of A I tended to get through most of the prompts, so if it is a bad thing I'm pretty much screwed .
  7. Agreed. It's the only negative feedback I ended up giving. In real life, not at all how you would deal with the situation, and really difficult to try and do it without asking questions/engaging directly with from the person you were talking to as you were going. Unlike some of you guys though I did enjoy the introductory and closing stations. Both my interviewers at those stations were really friendly. The opening station was a good way to relax and build a little bit of a rapport with the interviewer for later, and an MS3 was my closing station interviewer, which gave me a chance to have some questions answered from a student who was a little bit farther along at the school.
  8. Haha, I think that's pretty standard. Feeling the same myself. Just going to try to put it completely out of my head, otherwise the next 2 months will be unbearable
  9. Just received my interview invite! Wasn't expecting to hear tomorrow or the following day, so this has saved a lot of anxiety Hope everyone else will be receiving good news! TIME STAMP: 1:46pm Result: Invite GPA: 3.7 MCAT: 522 Year: PhD (in my last year)
  10. Hey all, looking for some feedback. I know I'm going to apply to the U of C and U of A, but I'm wondering if I should even bother applying to any of the other schools in Canada (particularly those in Ontario). I know my GPA is really low for most of my out of province choices, but I'm wondering if a highish MCAT and my graduate degree might help offset that. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Alberta Resident GPA: 3.6-3.7 GPA MCAT: 522 on the new MCAT (CP - 131, CARS - 130, BB - 130, Psy - 131). I'm finishing up my PhD and had a 4.0 for my classes for this degree (although only 3 classes were required). I have a few publications (1 first author). Some of my major ECs: TA - 12 semesters (6 different courses) Soccer (organized/managed 1-2 teams and have played co-ed and ladies throughout university) Assistant coach for a girls soccer team for the last year Other intramural sports (field hockey, basketball, flag football) Worked as a unit clerk at the hospital for 3 years. Also worked in retail for the first 3 years of my undergraduate degree. Big Sister for a year Tutor/mentor at the Young Offenders center in Calgary for 1.5 years 2 different health clubs for the last 3 years of my undergrad
