  1. Learn from others' mistakes; it's easier.
  2. They're having success with efforts that introduce matriculants to the reality of rural practice by having rural rotations and skills days. Also, there seems to be a move in Alberta towards getting different specialists out to rural areas by funding resource intensive procedures--the bottleneck to my understanding in ortho is OR time. A great example of this is the amazing orthopaedics team and work going on in Westlock/Barrhead. Hopefully moves and initiatives like this continue to address an obvious issue facing many Canadians. Speaking of.. the gold medal game is starting; gotta go.
  3. Result: Accepted (SMP--First choice of site). GPA: 91.8% with worst year removed. MCAT: 520 (132/129/131/128) ECs: Random. Interview: I thoroughly enjoyed the interview at UBC and thought it was a lot of fun. Being genuine (warts and all) seemed to play out well for me at all programs that offered an interview. Year: Graduated BSc in 2015 Geography: OOP
  4. Result: Accepted and will be attending as it is my top choice!!! GPA: 4.00 MCAT: 520 (132/129/131/128) ECs: Posted elsewhere, but varied and bizarre. Interview: This interview was a lot of fun, especially the tour afterwards where there were only 5 of us (med students included). It was incredible to get so much face time with current students Because of this I am able to remain close to my family, continue my volunteerism in northern AB, work with the physicians that have mentored me, keep my house (with welding machine and shop), my wife can keep her continuing contract as a teacher, and I can do more to help out with people needing a place to live from Fort McMurray. In a word: ideal.
  5. Result: Accepted!! GPA: 4.0 MCAT: 520 ECs: Lots of stuff as I typically just follow up opportunities that interest me. Year: B.Sc. complete Geography: IP Interview: Enjoyed the interview and simply behaved as I do when I'm working with health professionals/patients while shadowing. Pretty sure I just got lucky, but I'll take that.
  6. Good luck to everyone else interviewing tomorrow! If any of you is holding out on the cure for the common cold please pm me. I will sign an NDA if you let me know what it is lol.
