  4. This is a common experience of a lot of people in medicine and beyond. So common, in fact, that it has its own name. It's called the "sunken cost fallacy". It's not a rational thought pattern. Recognize what it is and ignore it.
  5. Calculate your percentile using a Z score. You scored roughly 76th percentile assuming normal distribution. You would be right on the edge between 3rd and 4th depending on the distribution
  6. Biggest advice: Don't go to UOttawa If you choose to ignore that advice - review your CV and life and come up with good examples of things like "working in a team, conflict, personal ethical dilemmas etc"
  7. When I interviewed, 8 people interviewed for 4 spots. 4 initial acceptances were sent out and 1 waitlist acceptance. Remember they wont always accept four people. If they interview 8 but only like 2 of them, they will only send two invites.
  8. You get reasonably significant tuition support/scholarships if you pursue MD/PhD at most schools. It also comes with the tradeoff of spending 3-5 extra years doing a PhD.
  9. Im over here just hoping that the ‘rona has changed the CaRMS grind for good. Im not looking forward to travelling around the country like that. I did it for med interviews back in the day and I really don't want to do it again.
  10. I was rejected from Ottawa pre-interview, Toronto and McMaster post interview and waitlisted (and eventually rejected) from queens the first time I applied. I cried and I was really unhappy applying again. HOWEVER, I tried again the next cycle, I was interviewed at 10 schools, went to 8 of them and was accepted by 4, waitlisted by 3 and rejected by 1. One of my acceptances was to an MD/PhD program. honestly, being rejected the first time was huge in my personal development and learning how to cope with failure and disappointment. It helped me grow as a person and made me consider other options that would make me happy outside of medicine. Once I realized that there were other things that would make me happy, I was able to approach the application process differently (healthier and more mature) and I think it showed in my interview. Chin up everyone! You got and interview. It didn’t work out his time, but for most applicants it doesn’t work out the first time! The med schools will have to watch out next year! After all, they will be dealing with a stronger, older and wiser version of you!
  11. As in does UOttawa do it? For anatomy class: no. They are prosecuted cadavers. do you have the opportunity to? Yes. The anatomy interest group puts on dissection electives every year.
  12. There won't be any more movement in the MD/PhD program
  13. 0.0 wow there. dont count your chickens before they hatch. Trust me on this one. I had 10 interviews. Its good to be optimistic but wait till you actually get an acceptance to worry about that one.
  14. I declined my interview last year and saw someone post about a day later that they got an interview of waitlist. I also know two different people previously that got interviews of a waitlist. Its not super common but it happens! Dont give up hope
