My avg for my first degree was 84.7%, and if I do a second degree at UBC it would be biology.
Cons:
I have to spend 3 years to finish this program. I also have to take 2nd-year bio courses which in my memory have low averages, so it seems risky in my position where I need to do absolutely well.
Not so great employment prospects. I would essentially be studying 3 years for the same qualifications that I have now.
Pros:
I like how UBC discloses grade info so there's information about profs and courses that could destroy my GPA.
I retain my IP status for 2 application cycles at UBC med. I am essentially gunning for UBC med due to their way of calculating GPA and my 1st and 2nd year courseload which was 27 and 28 credits. 3rd and 4th-year was 30 and 31 credits though.
I'm used to the system, kinda know what to expect.
My other option would be to pursue a 2-year post-bacc program in Ontario with a practicum which would lead to good employment prospects. However, I would lose my IP status in BC for 2 years (which seems to be my best bet with my poor GPA). Once I complete the program I would return to BC because I want to live here long-term med school or not. A con would be that I have no chance at pretty much any med schools other than USask or U of M (assuming I kill the MCAT) during those 2 years.
I'm already turning 24 so I do want to start the long marathon asap.
If you have experience for a second degree at UBC, please share them. Biology should be the fastest and most familiar for me, but any opinions would help!
