Bonjour, J'ai une Cote R de 33 et Casper 4e quartile. Je me demandais si j’avais des chances de rentrer en ergothérapie (j'ai appliqué à Udem, Ulaval et UdeS). J'ai vu des gens des années précédentes qui étaient sur la liste d'attente avec des cote r de 32. Un peu stressée! Merci d’avance -

I was wondering for those of you who have been accepted into the usask medical school or might have a good idea about this based on what you’ve heard, have you been accepted or know of anyone being accepted into medical school with an inconsistent academic record? Although my UAA is above 80%, my average severely dropped in the second semester of my third year due to external reasons. That brought my entire 3rd year average down, about 9% lower than my 1 & 2 years. I am a little worried about this being considered inconsistent and that it would remove my application from consideration this cycle. This is what it states on the website: “INCONSISTENT ACADEMIC RECORD: In all cases, the Admissions Committee has the right to remove the application from consideration based on a highly inconsistent academic record (e.g., grades declining over time or grades fluctuating over a wide range) and failure to progress through the degree in a timely fashion.” I’d appreciate any input!

Hello everyone, Let us present ourselves: we are student ambassadors of McGill Medicine. Not too long ago, we were in the applicant seats and we sympathize with the anxiety that comes along with that role. In fact, some of us roamed the pages here at premed101 and asked questions of our own in the hope of elucidating some of our worries about the application process and student life at McGill Medicine. We are glad to tell you that we are happy with our choice and this has brought us to pilot this Q&A initiative, where we hope to give back some of the good advice we have received along the way. Please do note that although we are affiliated with McGill's admission committee, the opinions we give here represent an honest and subjective view that is independent from the admissions committee. Now that is cleared up...Dear applicants, please ask away! Wishing you the very best during this application session, McGill Med Ambassadors Questions list (updated infrequently, search is your friend!) MMI Tips Could you describe a typical day at McGill medical school? How much "free time" do you have in the program?What is the general atmosphere between students, do you feel some kind of competition? Are you graded, or is the program pass/fail? What are some aspects of McGill and/or the program that you don't like and could be improved? Information about the MD/PhD program (specifically the interview process) Information for applicants who do not speak French, French language requirements How many people from the waiting list are admitted every year for Quebec university level? Does McGill use APP ("apprentissage par problème") like Udem ? or something similar ? What time the interview day usually ends? Which grades are considered by the CaRMS, as some residency programs allow a certain percentage to the grades obtained during the «pré-clinique»? What are the longitudinal family med time requirements? Until which time point in the MD training should you totally forget to hold a part time job? I applied for extenuating circumstances and I want to know if they will be considered for my admission, should I write to the admission office or should I not ask? Will French affect my learning and interactions with peers? WHY McGill? HOW is the the curriculum structured? Does accepting your McGill Med offer removes you from consideration at Ontario schools? What do they mean by "studies currently in progress must be at a level comparable to past academic performance."? Will my acceptance be revoked?? When are we supposed to send our first tuition payments? Is 26 years old too old to start medical school? How can I join the class of 2021 facebook group? Does the admission committee discriminate against applicants who have a second degree? How does course replacement for science prerequisites work? Will increasing my GPA by retaking courses during fall help me to get an interview? What should I do if my account on Minerva shows that I am supposed to pay international fees even though I am a Qc resident? Are there good study spaces on campus? How many times can I apply to medical school? Does McGill offer public transportation passes? What should I do if my science prerequisites expire soon? How are block exams delivered? For those who have two undergraduate degrees: if the first degree had some terms of part-time studying, can we still be considered on the basis of our 2nd degree? Is the exam software compatible with iPads and tablets? How hard is it to get into the program as an NTP? Does the Nutrition and Dietetics program in Toronto registers as a "professional program"? Where can we get some information about reapplication? Is it recommended to do observerships during first year? Does McGill arrange accommodations for rotations outside of Montreal? Can the third-year elective be done outside of Canada? How many weeks of pre-CaRMS electives are there? What does the admission committee mean by "maintaining a comparable academic performance"? How hard is it to match to a US residence if coming from McGill? How does it work when we have to sign a CEQ? When will the FB group of Class of 2022 be created? Is it possible to finish my graduate studies during medical school? Should I expect a formal acceptance letter via snail mail? How are official documents usually delivered? In which building are classes mostly held? Can the science prerequisites be taken at other universities/as online courses? Is the list of reasons for deferral on the McGill Website exhaustive? Do McGill students need to upload a final transcript? When does the security check by CMQ happen? Are classes recorded? Is it possible to re-take on the science prerequisite courses in order to increase my GPA?

Hi everyone! I’ve seen lots of these threads before and was looking for one for the McMaster MSc in Global Health for Fall 2022 and had no success so I figured I’d start one here! Looks like we won’t be hearing from McMaster Global Health office for a while (most past year forums say offer letters received around mid may), but I thought it’d be useful to start one of these to share stories and updates! Please feel free to share whatever you’re comfortable with! I am a first time applicant who applied on February 8th 2022 (chronic procrastinator). I’ve been in school for way too long now, but this program sounded amazing and in-line with my goals, so i had to at least “put my name in the hat” for this! Fingers crossed for us all:) -
Bonjour ! J'ai remarqué qu'il y avait beaucoup de "topics" pour suivre l'évolution dans différents programmes en santé, mais je n'ai rien trouvé par rapport à l'ergothérapie. Dès que certains d'entre nous recevrons des nouvelles (admissions, refus, liste d'attente..), ce serait cool qu'on laisse les informations ici pour le programme. Nous sommes en pleine période d’admission et je sais que c’est stressant donc ne lâche pas Une conseillère en orientation nous avais dit que lorsque nos trois choix sont refusés par exemple à l’UdEM, l’université s’engage à nous offrir un autre choix comme porte d’issue, comme par exemple d’aller en biomédical. Est-ce vrai ou non? Cette conseillère nous a souvent dit des fausses informations donc je préfère être sûre si possible. En gros, si nos trois choix sont refusés, cela veux dire que ça fini là, on ne peux pas appliquer dans un autre programme pas contingenté? Prend soin de toi -
Salut ! J’espère que la personne qui lit vas bien J’avais une question, en fait ma Cote R me stress beaucoup je suis en science de la santé et je fais ma dernière session actuellement. À ma première session (cours en ligne) je m’en suis sorti avec une de 33 même si en ligne c’était un désastre mentalement, à ma deuxième session elle a baissée à 32,197 car c’était encore en ligne et j’arrive plus du tout à survivre c’était très dure mais j’ai fait de mon mieux. Je trouve que d’avoir été évalué en ligne est très décevant, je sais que plusieurs personnes ont trichés et donc il était plus dure pour moi de me démarquer du groupe vu que je travaillais honnêtement alors que les autres avaient des supers bonnes notes en se partageant les réponses. Est-ce que les universités prennent compte de cela ? Peuvent-elles remarquer que mes Cote R étaient plus basse car beaucoup de gens trichaient et donc qu’il était plus difficile pour moi d’avoir une bonne cote avec des moyennes de classes très hautes ? Par contre, à ma troisième session en présentiel (autonome 2021) c’était super j’ai été assez performante. J’ai reçu ma Cote R pour cette session là qui est de 32.657 et je ne comprend pas pourquoi elle n’a pas augmentée davantage alors que dans chaque cours que j’ai eu (avec 7 cours) ma cote R était au minimum de 33 pour chacun d’entre eux à l’exception d’un cours à option où j’ai eu 29. À présent j’entends parler de Cote R provisoire et je ne comprend pas (j’en avais jamais entendu parlé avant), est-ce que c’est possible qu’elle change ? Pour augmenter ou descendre ? En fait mon rêve est de devenir dentiste, j’ai fait mon TAED avec une note de 17/30 pour les deux catégories à faire mais maintenant que j’ai reçu ma Cote R (j’ai cru que j’allais au moins être à 33 après ma 3e session vue mes résultats) je crois que ça sert à rien d’appliquer en médecine dentaire (la Cote R pour le programme est désormais autour de 34 :/). Est-ce vrai ? J’ai aussi une lettre de recommandation de deux orthodontistes qui tenaient à me recommander à l’Université de Montréal de leur propre gré car ils ont vu mon intérêt et mes compétences dans le domaine, je ne sais pas si ça change quelque chose ou non. Désolé du long message, c’est juste que c’est très frustrant comme situation et je ne sais pas où appliquer pour une demande d’admission et je n’ai personne à qui m’adresser qui s’y connais vraiment pour mes questions. Hi everyone. I am currently a fourth year physics major at a university in Ontario. I have never taken a bio/biochem/orgo_chem course in university. So I have no solid background in most of what the MCAT covers. My cGPA is 3.82 (with the best two years of my three averaging to 3.95 on the OMSAS scale). So that gives me a little hope. In addition, I do have 2 years of solid research experience so far. Right now, I am thinking of pursuing a Masters in Physics (with a focus on radiation oncology physics) after undergrad to give myself some room to study for the MCAT and also have more things under my extracurricular section. Do you guys think this is a good move? What do you recommend to a pre-med like me? Do I have a chance at any Ontario schools? is it too late? I would appreciate your advice. -
Hi all, I was hoping to apply to a PT or OT grad school in the future and I'm currently enrolled in an anatomy course that I ended up failing the midterm for and now it's likely I won't do as well in the course or even pass the course. I have the chance to withdraw from my course right now with the W but would this option be better to take right now than a bad grade? How would a W (especially in an intensive anatomy course), look for grad school admissions to PT/OT? -
So my 2y GPA is 3.70 on the dot. Does anyone think I have a chance? I know it’s unknown what the GPA cut-offs are, but how greatly have they varied in the past? Do they stay in the 3.7 range or have they ever been higher? (3.8+)?

Hey guys - just realized I may have screwed my chances at medical school. I applied to queens and western. My third and fourth years are the 3.88 and 3.87 respectively. I did a fifth year in 2020 and took three courses, which was my biggest, dumbest mistake because I ended up with a calculated 3.5 gpa here. I am terrified Queens will take this year and my fourth year as my last two, leaving me at a 3.68 gpa. Have I screwed myself over?

Hi all, Christopher here from the Pluripotent Premed podcast, and creator of www.UltimatePremedPackage.ca. After overwhelmingly positive feedback on 'Season 1' of the podcast that I co-host with a medical school classmate of mine, Ziad, we are back in the (virtual) studio and recording new weekly episodes for Season 2! If you haven't heard of Pluripotent Premed yet, feel free to check us out on any major podcasting platform (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) or on our Facebook page. We are two medical students in Canada who host a completely free podcast that is designed to guide premed students through the premedical years.In Season 1, we focused on all aspects of the MCAT, med school interview, admissions process, CASPer, and much more. This season we have a couple of new series that will help guide you on your premed journey: 2020-2021 Admissions Cycle series - last year Ziad and I recorded a single episode that broke down each Canadian medical school and the requirements for admission, interlaced with stats from previous classes that provided insight into whether you are a 'competitive' applicant. This year we've decided to do it a little differently - we've invited a medical student from each of the 17 Canadian medical schools to come on a do a condensed 10-15 minute episode about their specific medical school. We will discuss with them the academic and non-academic admission requirements, the school's curriculum, and their personal experience as a student at the school. We hope that this format will provide a greater and more personal insight into each of the schools, and will allow listeners to seek out the specific episodes that highlight the schools that they are interested in. Alternative Background series - the purpose of this series is to bring on medical student guests who don't come from the typical premed background, in order to discuss their route to medicine. We had numerous listeners request a series like this, and we believe it will be helpful and provide hope for those listeners who don't fit that 'cookie cutter' premed applicant. So far we have episodes with a medical student who did an undergraduate degree in music with no science background, a student who did a dual business and science degree and how they balanced it, and a student who is pursuing an MD/PhD and what the admissions process looks like for that applicant stream. Thought it might be good to start a thread on the changes that each Canadian dental school is implementing for the upcoming 2021 application cycle such as accepting/not accepting winter 2020 grades etc. Western (emailed): Not accepting Winter 2020 grades, accepting Fall 2019 indefinitely. Emailed and they explained it as basically if Fall 2019 meets their 'threshold' GPA and it is one of your 'best' 2 years then it will be counted. No longer need a 'B' in the prereq's, no longer need an in-lab component for Orgo Chem indefinitely. UofT (emailed): No upcoming admissions committee meetings until September, so no changes/decisions made until then. Dalhousie (emailed): No changes at this time. Hello, I was wondering if someone might have some insight into this. I am currently hoping to apply to Nursing at U of T in the fall of 2020. I know the GPA calculation says the last 5 full course loads, but I took was more courses then that in my final year. Specifically, I took a 2 full and a half full courses in the summer (I've already asked and those will count), and took a full course load in the fall/winter session (another 5 full courses). I asked admissions which courses from the fall/winter term they would count, but I couldn't get a clear answer. Perhaps that's because they won't know until they see my application. I was told that with applicants that have a heavier work sometimes more then 5 full courses are considered. Has anyone had a similar experience and would be able to provide some insight? Thanks!

Hey everyone! Firstly, a HUGE congratulations to all applicants in the 2019/2020 cycle who finished their interview at UBC during the past couple of weekends!! Take the time to pat yourselves on the back for finishing up with the stressful portion of your applications! It's just a matter of waiting until May -- I sincerely wish you all the best of successes no matter what happens. I can definitely understand how stressful the wait can be though, so if anyone would like to chat via PM, please feel free to message me. It's much easier said than done, but try to distract yourself with something positive, and hopefully the 3 months pass quickly. Speaking of distractions, the Class of 2023 is super excited to be presenting the MD Admissions Video 2020 we've prepared for you, which will be on YouTube in just a couple of days ! Many, many thanks to everyone involved with this project, especially Kevin Z and Melissa K for putting in 300+ hours to direct, film, and edit this masterpiece. I have shared with you the trailer, which was recently published on YouTube.
