Help choosing an undergrad program
Strugglingstudent003 posted a topic in General Premed Discussions
Currently a grade 12 student in Vancouver BC. I’ve applied to Calgary, Toronto and UBC for kin. I’ve been accepted to both Calgary and Toronto but am still waiting for UBC. But at this point I feel like my chances of getting into UBC are pretty slim even though it’s my first choice as admissions is ending soon. My goal is to get into med school one day and I’m hoping for some advice as to which program would give me a better chance to achieve my goal.- 8 replies

Hi Premed 101! I am trying to learn a bit more about what makes the University of Calgary's medical program unique? From perusing their website, I can see that the program is 3 years long. Beyond that, I am finding it hard to learn about the values of the school, any courses that they offer that other schools do not, etc. When I look at the University of Alberta website, in contrast, it appears much more clear to me what it might be like to be in their program (they seem to value Indigenous health, mental health of their students, and supporting their students academically through the program from what I can see). So, I thought to come on here and ask! What made/makes the UCalgary medical school the one for you? Thanks everyone!

So hello premed101! I have been lurking in this forum for quite some time and decided to make an account now that I have gotten accepted into a neuroscience program into ulethbridge for Fall 2021. I was wondering if this program is good to take? I am still waiting on admission updates from U of C or from MRU and Lethbridge was the quickest to accept me so far. I have no clue as to how to prepare to be premed so I am quite in a pickle as of now. I have also seen that ulethbridge also have a pre-proffessional transfer into medicine so I am also wondering if anybody have experience with that sort of thing. Any advices to give is also welcome! Thanks. For more information, I am applying to kinesiology and bachelor of health science in U of C and comp sci and education/phy.ed degree in MRU.

Hello there, I am a first-time applicant writing my online application to the University of Calgary MD Program, and am looking for advice on writing the Top 10 Experiences section. I have found quite a few helpful pieces of advice on this forum (thanks everyone!) but was wondering if anyone would be willing to review mine for clarity and to ensure I am hitting the right points and tone. I would be happy to proof-read anyone else's as well, and provide what feedback I can! Thanks so much! Megan

Would anyone like to start/join a Calgary based MMI practice group for the 2020 interview cycle?
-
How is everyone doing? Have you been able to keep your minds occupied with thoughts other than "I wonder if they have started reviewing my file" or "how many more weeks until February?" Hang in there! I was wondering if anyone has been through the MMI process at Calgary more than once. I would like to know how similar, or different, the two (or more) years were regarding questions and content. Not looking for specific questions, as that's not permitted. General comments appreciated. Thanks, and hope to see you in Feb/March!

Can anyone provide insight on choosing between Calgary and McMaster for med school? In terms of program, matching for residency after, heaviness of schedule, etc? Any insights would be hugely appreciated! My friends and family are all closer to Mac but I think Calgary is a way more beautiful place to live.
