  1. First-year Medicine here. Anyone else finding it really hard to find opportunities for summer research work? I'd love to make a little money doing some research. I have a Master's, and I'm flexible on where I'd do it. Does anyone have any advice about paid programs or opportunities for medical students that take place during the summer? Thanks in advance!
  2. Specifically, funding for nursing research. I would like to invite nurses on this website to post what they know about how their hospital secures nursing research funding below. If you could also post about whether the funding comes from an individual, a grant, or a corporation, this would all be valuable information for my team. I am a university student and will be using this information for a project I am working on with ARNET.
  3. I am in a graduate research thesis program and have presented my research at 6 different regional and international conferences. Although the title of my poster is the same, there are slightly variations in data presented. However, my main concern is if I should group all 6 poster presentations as one single "Research Entry". This would be ideal HOWEVER the "100 Character Limit" for entry description makes grouping next to impossible (For perspective, the name of a single conference takes up 70 Characters). The only way (i see for now) is to list all 6 presentations as individual entries. However, I fear the risk of putting nearly identical experiences and may not look very good to adcoms. What are peoples suggestions, and for those who faced similar issues, how did you go about proceeding it? Thanks a lot!
  4. I’m trying to pick an undergraduate program that will help me get a high gpa and research opportunities while leaving adequate time for extracurriculars and volunteer experience so that I can apply to medical school. of the program listed, which ones will give me all of those things and please let me know if you’ve heard anything good or bad about them. thanks!
  5. Like the title says, will psych research be preferable on a med app if I'm genuinely interested in it as opposed to biomedical research that I would otherwise be doing to check a box? Thank you in advance!
  6. Hi, I was fortunate to be included on a publication recently, and was hoping to talk about it on my application. The thing is, there are two co-first authors, and then my name comes next. Does that make me a second or third author? If it's considered 2nd, I could include it under "Research and Publications," as opposed to the other NAQ categories. I've already asked UBC about this, and they said that it's ultimately up to myself to decide. I'm hoping to get some feedback about this topic because I'm not very familiar with the world of academic research, thanks in advance.
  7. Hi everyone I am a grade 11 student in Alberta and I was wondering if there are any research opportunities I can take before I enter undergraduate studies. My desired university is the University of Alberta. Additionally, it would be very helpful if you guys could share any research or health related extracurriculars you guys did in high school. Thanks!
  8. Hi everyone I was wondering how competitive it is to get into the research opportunities at the University of Alberta during my undergraduate degree. Thanks!
  9. Hi guys, I am very new to this community, so sorry if this question has been asked before. I saw in many of your posts that students have publications (as leading or 2nd, 3rd authors) and conference papers which is really amazing. I wonder if anyone can provide some insights on how can undergrad get their research published. (i.e. is the published work done in summer or you have to stick to a project longer). Thank you so much in advance!!
  10. Hello, I was wondering how important it is to do a thesis in my senior year of undergrad (my program doesn't require it for graduation). I have no research experience and I am going into my 4th year this fall. Would it be better for me to start looking for volunteer positions in labs and then do a small independent study rather than doing a thesis? I'm also very discouraged at this point to find a supervisor as it is fairly late in the year. Any advice would be appreciated!! Thank you!!
  11. Hi everyone! After 3 years of applying to med schools, I was finally fortunate enough to receive an offer this year! I am looking for someone to take over my current research assistant position in Diabetes and Endocrinology at BC Children's Hospital. I'm so grateful to have had this opportunity over the past 2 years and the experience really added to my application. I have had the chance to work in a clinical setting alongside other healthcare professionals, and interact directly with patients on a daily basis. I've also been able to make really good connections and references. For anyone thinking of applying next cycle, I believe this job is a great opportunity to strengthen an application. If you're interested, below is an overview of what the job entails. For more information, or to apply for the position, please private message me!
