Hello everyone, I am graduating this year however I am not happy about my last 2 years GPA in order to apply to Western (I have 3.7+) and cGPA 3.5. I wanted to do a 1 year non-degree through TMU's chang school. But what do you all think about 2years accelerated baccalaureate programs that TMU offer? I can't really help my cGPA but at least I can increase the last 2 years. If I do the 2 year program, can I apply at the first year? There is also a disability studies bachelor program but it is part-time however you are allowed to get a full time course load. and same thing for this one, can I start applying in my first year? Any help is appreciated.

I know it doesnt really matter which undergrad you go to for med school but which health sci program is better and is "easier" How is the program structure at western and ottawa and which one is better to get a higher GPA in. What are all the pros and cons i hope some current students are able to answer :)

I got into honours health sciences at uottawa, western science (major in biology) and health sciences kinesiology. I eventually want to pursue a career in medicine, so I was wondering if anyone can rank those three schools and programs and see which one will be the best pathway to get into medicine. -

Hey guys - just realized I may have screwed my chances at medical school. I applied to queens and western. My third and fourth years are the 3.88 and 3.87 respectively. I did a fifth year in 2020 and took three courses, which was my biggest, dumbest mistake because I ended up with a calculated 3.5 gpa here. I am terrified Queens will take this year and my fourth year as my last two, leaving me at a 3.68 gpa. Have I screwed myself over?

Is there any benefit of applying with ACCESS if you are secure that you past the MCAT cutoffs. Would it help at all?

Hello, I'm not sure if I'm posting this right so I apologize if this ends up in the wrong place. I am wondering if its worth it to retake a 127 Cars in a few weeks. I understand for Western the cut-off was 127 last year but there's no guarantee it will stay there this year correct? Is it risky to rewrite so close to the first attempt? (all other sections were 128+) Especially pretty much just for Western and Mac? Would appreciate any input. Edit: OMG SORRY MED STUDENTS I THOUGHT I WAS IN THE PREMED AREA. How cringe of me.

Hi! I have created this thread as I am deciding between UofT, Queens, and McMaster for OT (and I am sure others are as well). I was wondering if any current OT students or graduates would be able to answer some of the questions I had or just share some of their experiences at these schools. So far from my own research I gathered the following: UofT seems to have more of a research focus, with a couple of the courses being research-based (e.g. learning methodologies, how to write a proposal). They also have LEAP placements where one can be placed where there is no OT present or OT role. Queens seems to have a mental health and communication focus (one mandatory placement in mental health). It also seems their program is shorter than the others (it can potentially end in June depending on when we schedule our last placement), and has 4 terms of classes rather than 5 like the other schools. I think they also say not to expect all fieldwork to take place in Kingston? McMaster- I don't know a lot about them other than problem based learning- which I am still trying to wrap my head around what that is, would appreciate if someone could explain PBL to me! Please correct me if I am wrong with any of the above info and I would appreciate if current students or grads could share their experiences. -
I am I med sci and I don't know if I should take physics 1028 (with Poepping) or physics 1301 (with Wong). So, could someone help me? It would be greatly appreciated. BTW I haven't taken grade 12 physics.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right spot, but I'm currently entering my third year at Western and have only now realized I really want to pursue medicine. That said, my first two years were pretty bad, and I'm not sure what to do or how to improve my chances. I have pretty solid extracurriculars and work experience, so my main concern is having a GPA that's competitive enough for an interview, because I was uninformed and didn't realize that GPA was king and I focused so heavily on bolstering my non-academics. My first semester of first year wasn't bad (I had a 3.9)– it was my second semester that tanked because of a 56 in physics 2. Then, the summer after first year, I decided to try and fast-track but due to personal reasons, I also tanked those courses, obtaining a 56 and 64 in the two 0.5 credit classes I took. Upon entering second year, I retook one of the summer courses and physics 2, getting a new grade of 76 in the summer course (it was orgo so definitely not my strong suit), and getting a 92 when I took physics 2 again. I've been super confused with how each different med school in Canada calculates their respective adjusted GPAs (if applicable), but so far my first year GPA including the 56 in physics is a 3.44 on the 4.0 OMSAS scale (would be a 3.71 without physics). Those two second year courses I took in the summer after first year have also tanked my GPA, but I'm not sure if they'd be considered part of my first year or second year GPA (if someone could help me out with this I would appreciate it). I took a full 5.0 courses in first year, and in second year, I took 5.0 courses as well (but repeated 2 half courses). I'll give a summary/breakdown here: Year 1 GPA: 3.44 (with physics), 3.71 (without) Year 1 SUMMER GPA: 1.65 (not sure if this is separate or gets tacked on to the GPA of a full year) Year 2 GPA: 3.53 (did pretty bad first semester due to personal issues that continued from the summer, but I had managed to 3.9 second semester after working on tackling my personal issues) What's clear here is that my current grades and GPA are not by any means competitive for medical school, or even close to many cutoff requirements. However, given that I started university with the necessary grades and made improvements after getting hit with personal issues, I know I have the capability of obtaining 3.85 to 4.0 in each of the next three years (I am planning on doing a fifth year to raise my cGPA). I've learned that many medical schools are not so forgiving of hiccups like mine, and my main worry is that the 3 terrible courses I've mentioned might really ruin my chances at med, because a majority of my other courses were 80s and 90s with few high 70s. I know I still have a shot at Western med, but I'm not too sure about other med schools. I'm also willing to take 1.5 courses for each of the next two summers if necessary to raise my GPA and/or overload during the year. At this point I've considered a sixth year or a second undergrad, because I know I want med and I know I can get the grades in the NEXT three years, but I really messed up the first two. I have not written the MCAT yet (currently studying for it), but my main concern is meeting GPA cutoffs with my first two years dragging me down. If anyone has insight on what to do in this situation, or strategies to get my GPA up to a competitive level (ex: second undergrad or master's), or info on schools I might be eligible for, please let me know.

How do marks differ in different universities?

Since professors have to maintain their class average around 60%, would programs with a high cut-off from high school be harder since the professor's will need to make assessments more difficult because all of the students will be high achievers. I'm asking this because I want to go to medical school and need a high GPA which is why I am conflicted between a program like western med sci which is full of keeners vs something like York Kinesiology. I know you probably see many annoying people like me on this website but please bear with me. -
I have gotten offers from both programs but I am having trouble choosing one. Both campuses are absolutely gorgeous and they are both similar science courses. So, the only deciding factor left is the ease of getting a high GPA. So, if anyone knows in which program it would be easier for me to achieve a higher GPA, please let me know. Thanks.

I just noticed on the OMSAS guide that applicants must be completed or on the last year of their bachelor's. Does that mean that someone can't apply in the summer between second and third year? is this the case for other universities as well? -
Just wondering what the general consensus is on the available general surgery programs in the country, which are considered “the best” and what are the pros and cons of each? -
I know that there is Western Medical Science which sends a lot of students to med other than health science, are there any other programs like these? I want to know this because I am in grade 12 and want to be a doctor. I want to take a bachelor's program which is science oriented while also giving me the best shot possible for med school. Most of time what I hear is that if you don't get into the two courses I mentioned your best choice will be to go to an easy university so you can still get a high GPA (rather than a life science program which are generally tough), like you would in health sci due to grade inflation, is all of this true? Finally, if it is true, what are some science based programs I can take at one of these easy universities like Guelph and York, while also having opportunities for extracurriculars and research at the university. I live in the GTA by the way. -
I am feeling really torn between Western and U of A for OT and I am running out of time to decide. I would love to hear opinions from a number of people in order to get a more representative sample of the student experience. -
I am determined to attend medical school in Canada. Would love any advice regarding the few options I have Currently studying for the MCAT and going into the fourth year of my honours Science undergrad- 1st year GPA 3.21 (technically 4.5 course load, including my initial grade and my improved grade for my 1 repeated course) 2nd year GPA 3.44 3rd year GPA 3.63 I'm assuming these are my options (based on years of obsessive research on forums lmao): 1) Do a 5th year. Attain 3.8+ in year 4 & 5. Apply to Western in my 5th year. If unsuccessful, complete a master's program. Apply again to Western and Queen's (perhaps Ottawa?) Any other schools I would have a chance at? 2) Do a second undergraduate degree and open up doors to other schools. Could do this after completing my degree in four years or after doing the additional 5th year. I am studying hard for the MCAT and would say I have unique ECs. I appreciate any honest insight (optimistic/pessimistic). Thank you in advance!

Hi all, I received my offer of acceptance at Western MedSci back in December and didn’t really consider Mac ArtSci + Health Sci considering their competitive nature. Though I got rejected from Health Sci, I recently got accepted at ArtSci. I was wondering if there was anybody currently in the ArtSci program who could speak on their experience or anybody currently in medical school that have graduated from ArtSci. Would ArtSci be a good program as a pre-med? I was planning on combining it with Biochem but I am still slightly worried. MedSci is a lot more specialized (overwhelmingly so) and I’m worried about maintaining a high GPA in a program that appears to want students to fail. Can anyone speak on this? So confused about what to do! Any guidance would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated! Thank you so much !

This question is for all current physio students- I have applied to quite a few physio programs this year and wanted to know how possible it is to qualify for a scholarship set aside for PT students? I have gone through a couple of websites and the number of scholarships available is pretty good when looking at the class-size. But I feel like current students would have a better idea of what it actually looks like. I look forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks -
Hi Everyone, This question is mainly for physio students currently studying at Western. How are you finding the program in regards to teaching techniques and classroom environment? Do you feel like you have a wide variety of placement opportunities in a wide range of settings? I have heard that Western helps students placed outside of London by giving them $600 per placement. Is this true? Are there other opportunities for scholarships etc. I have seen quite a bit on the website but would like to hear others personal experiences as well. Also, how is the living situation in London? Is there a way to find other PT students to rent with, hopefully closer to campus? What about extra-curricular experiences? Also, I have heard that some PT programs are on a pass/fail basis, giving greater emphasis on collaboration and team-work. Would you describe Western's program to be like that? Thank you all. I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
