Hi to folks on the forum, I've been quite entrenched in the search for my future occupation for a while now. I find mental health very interesting and currently have very broad plans to become a psychiatrist. I've most definitely been influenced by people like Dr. K from HealthyGamerGG and my own search in healing my trauma. I hope I can get up off my ass sometime and read some books on cPTSD. A little about my academics; I'm currently in 10th Grade and have advanced one grade level in a few academic courses. As I stand currently, I may be able to increase my workload by a fair amount next year and graduate early. My grades are not bad. I currently have a 99.x% in Mathematics 11 (with a final exam left !!!), but my school's grades and BC's grades in general tend to be inflated. I'm a little weaker in the English and Socials department, though. Moving to Alberta next year will give me a nice reality check with their diploma exam and the increased workload I'd face. It would, honestly, be good preparation for the work I'd have to do in university to get that sweet >3.8. I also have questions concerning undergraduate programs and different schools but that'll be for later. I've considered some of the potential consequences of graduating early. hs and uni experience - I miss out on grad day memories with hs friends, etc., but I'll be moving at the end of this year anyway and losing them all. I don't think I'm going to be one to drink and party with friends at university too much. I am unbothered by the fact that I'll be under legal age for many activities. I think I'll be able to socialize with people a year above me just fine. hs courses and AP classes - Completing 11/12 courses in one year would mean I'd probably be able to take only Calculus. AP Chemistry / Biology would be off the table, as I'd need the additional year for that. miscellaneous: I wouldn't say my maturity is terrible, but I would be lying if I didn't say I am most worried about writing essays and doing well in interviews more than getting a high GPA. You can probably tell that my writing is not up to par. However, I'm of the opinion that age does not define maturity and rather experience does. Hopefully I can put in the work to improve my verbal communication and writing further. My question is: would it be worth for me to graduate early? Since I'd be taking many of the prerequisite courses med school adcoms will be looking at in first year uni, would not taking AP Chemistry / Biology or even possibly Calculus put me at a disadvantage? I do feel that the extra year would have it's own upsides, though. If I get a shitty MCAT result first/second go, it would be no hurry. I have one extra year. Speaking of admissions, would adcoms be skeptical of me, since I would be very young against the general applicant pool? Thanks. Hope I didn't come off as too pretentious / having PMS. On a side note, this forum has been great to read through. I'll continue to read and incessantly worry about events in the far future.

Hi everyone, I have been questioning my CEGEP choices recently. I will be a secondary 5 in September, so cégep is approaching very fast. To be honest, I've been looking at cégeps and universities since 6th grade, but I never settled on a cégep. I want to get into honours sciences, more specifically honours health science. Then, I’d like to pursue a career in medicine and for that I will need an R code of 35 and higher. Short academic description : My average is about 91% (not full potential at all : I’m always last minute, I gave up on homework, etc.) in secondary 4 so far (we haven't gotten our final grades yet, it’s probably going to be different then). The thing is, I'm conflicted because I don't know whether I should choose an English CÉGEP or French CEGEP. I go to a French IB school with enriched English courses, in which I have a 92% average. I'm more fluent in French than I am in English, but my strength in both languages is writing. I’m letting you know this because I heard that most works in cégep are written ones. English language choices : My ideal CÉGEP in terms of size, classes and programs is John Abbott, but it’s way too far from my place (1h20+), it's too bad Dawson cégep is super close to my place (10-15min), very accessible, it has a first choice program and it's a good cégep. However, I find that it has way too many students, which will make the student-teacher relationship more difficult I think. It's also a huge cégep, which makes makes me think it will have more strong students. Then comes Vanier college. It’s 45 minutes away from my place, just like my current high school. It’s not the best cégep, but it's not the worst one either. Also, it has a honours health science program. However I don't know if it’s an advantageous cégep for a high R code. Also too many people from my current high school are going there and that throws me off. --------------------------------------------------------------- For French cégeps, I have BdeB, which seems like a really good cégep, but a very competitive one too. It's also kinda far from my place (+- 1h). My ideal CÉGEP would be Brébeuf, but I can't afford it :(. Then there's Maisonneuve, which I only heard of recently. People say it's a good cégep for sciences but I don't know what to think about that. I haven't heard a lot of positive things about this cégep. It's an hour away from my place too. Which cégep should I choose ? There's the whole English French dilemma. I'm mostly worried about the literature course and the humanities course. Do you know if it was hard for French high school students to adapt to English language classes, especially humanities ? Was writing essays hard ? I don't know. I'm sorry if these questions are bothersome. Thank you for reading this and if you have any answer for me please let me know. P.-S.: I don't know if this is important, but I am planning on pursuing my studies in English, at UofT, McGill or a foreign uni.

So I have asked about this in another Forum (under the similar username of this Premed101 account) and did get some positive replies from medical students and current undergraduate students. But I'm still facing the dilemma, so someone told me to post here in Premed101 to get more responses in order to make my decision. Please if you can take some time out and help me decide I'll be very grateful. I'm a 25y/o from Ontario, I dropped out of high school in my late teens due to personal problems and depression, then at the age of 21 I decided to go back to high school and finish off my Grade 12 courses. Then after almost 2 years of study I graduated with an overall of 87% in the OSSD. Upon graduating high school at 23 years old I went through a monetary crisis which led me to depression again, in addition I was very stressed with anxiety. I also procrastinated my undergrad application deadlines because I wasn't feeling well. Now, just recently after psychological counselling sessions I feel a slightly bit mentally prepared. But the problem is I hardly remember the things that I have learned in Grade 12 Physics and Chemistry. During that time I was mentally stressed being the oldest one in school but still managed to finish the high school courses by cramming. However the Grade 12 Biology, Calculus and Advanced Functions, I remember studying those. Hence I kind of remember the course materials of Grade 12 Biology, Calculus and Advanced Functions but not the ones that I crammed the Grade 12 Physics and Chemistry. I also didn't make any notes when doing the high school courses, I mainly bought a couple of textbooks by McGraw Hill and Nelson, did the practice questions and that it. And also another reason beside cramming , I had a 2 year study gap after graduating high school when I was depressed and felt drained out. There are still some Ontario universities and some Out of Province Universities that are still accepting students for undergraduate Fall 2020 entry since most University classes will be taken entirely online. Would it be better if I start my undergraduate this Fall 2020 (BSc in Biology or Biomedical Science) in OOP schools like University of Saskatchewan or other universities) without having any sort of preparation, because I feel that I have forgotten most of what I learned or crammed almost 2 years ago when I graduated high school at 23. Or is it going to be better if I start school in Winter 2021 and in the meantime in-between September to December I get prepared by making notes on each Grade 12 Courses that I previously completed. (Because before I didn't make any notes when studying for the grade 12 courses, as I said earlier I only read textbooks and did practice questions, I also crammed most of Grade 12 Physics and Chemistry). Is this a viable option? There are some huge cons of starting school in January 2021 which is I won't be accountable for wGPA and Full Course Load Med School application systems (I'm very sorry, I have little knowledge about this). Would it be a great disadvantage if I start school in Winter session? Is there anybody here that started their undergrad in January or Winter session in the pre-med track or got into medical school ? I'm just worried if I'll do very poorly in my 1st year because coming from a 2 year gap then there were some courses I crammed, I feel really guilty about this and regret it. I think if I had atleast 2/3 months of self preparation before starting the undergrad, I think I would have been able to relearn and recollect everything. But now if I start in Fall 2020 I have about 2 weeks left and if I start in January 2021 I can use the time to write notes on Grade 12 courses and relearn everything that I forgot. Please help me decide, what would you have done if you were in my situation? I really don't know who to talk to about this, I'm very much stressing out. I'm very sorry if I was being too repetitive in my description but I'm currently going through a lot of stress regarding this. Thank you very much for taking your valuable time to read through this, I will really appreciate all of your replies and suggestions. Hi everyone! I am currently an 11th grade high school student and I was wondering when should I start preparing for the MCAT? Is it beneficial to start now or should I wait to finish the high school biology curriculum for a better foundation? Thanks!

My brother is finishing grade 11 this year in Ontario. This summer we will be moving to Quebec. When we go, will he get into CEGEP without a high school diploma or will he automatically get a high school diploma in Québec. Thanks for answering.
