  1. Hi! So, I'm in my 4th year of a Bio degree at Carleton U. Long story short, I applied to med school and did not get an offer this cycle. I felt that it wouldn't be smart to apply with the same stats, so I'm applying for second degree that I could actually make a career out of if I have to apply to medical school several times. I really love health care and think I could be a good fit for nursing if I didn't make it into medicine, so I would be happy either way. I applied to Western 4 year BScN (both sites). I just have some questions that aren't answered by the admissions page: - What is considered to be a competitive average for a second degree applicant? My average in my final 2 years (10 full courses) is ~80% and I have a 4th quartile CASPER. - Does Western look at EC's for nursing? I have really good EC's (working in health care, TAing, tutoring, volunteering, etc.) but I wasn't sure if Western even looks at EC's. - When do 105 applicants usually start hearing from Western for nursing? I got an email saying that they were "still reviewing my application/ to check the portal regularly" and there's a message on the application portal for me to submit my final transcript at the end of the semester when my current grades come out. Does this mean that I likely won't hear back until the semester is over and they have my grades for my current courses? I'm just nervous at my chances to get in since it seems like nursing is so competitive nowadays (a lot of OUAC 101 applicants are reporting 90+ average, and there's not a lot of info on stats for second degree applicants). Any info would be appreciated and would help to ease the anxiety of waiting!
  2. hello I've been thinking of applying to the UDeM nursing bachelor's programme because I've heard it's an excellent pre-med (people with 3,9/4,33 get admitted), It prepares you well for a health-care environnement and it's a good plan-B in case I don't get into medicine. The thing that worries me is that a lot of people are saying that it's extremely hard to get good grades in UDeM because of subjectif exams or graded clinical work. Is it true? If anyone has completed this program, can you please share your experience and give tips on how to maximize the changes of a high GPA. Thank you
  3. Specifically, funding for nursing research. I would like to invite nurses on this website to post what they know about how their hospital secures nursing research funding below. If you could also post about whether the funding comes from an individual, a grant, or a corporation, this would all be valuable information for my team. I am a university student and will be using this information for a project I am working on with ARNET.
  4. I am currently a high school student who is looking into a medical pathway. Right now, I'm thinking of getting a registered nursing degree, then applying into a medical school for family medicine. Are there any significant differences between the nursing program and the medical program and will my chances of getting a medical degree decrease if I study registered nursing first?
  5. Hello everyone I have applied into nursing programs in Montreal (at UdeM, uSherbrooke (campus Longueuil) and McGill). I am very interested in working in health care and a nursing career is an option if I don’t get into med school. I was simply wondering what are the best nursing programs in Montreal? I’ve heard some bad reviews for UdeM, saying that they easily kick out their students and that they have a different approach (apprentissage par problème). Is it the same for the other universities? I simply want to take the best decision regarding my nursing education. If there’s any former nursing student reading this, please reach out!
  6. Hello, I was wondering if someone might have some insight into this. I am currently hoping to apply to Nursing at U of T in the fall of 2020. I know the GPA calculation says the last 5 full course loads, but I took was more courses then that in my final year. Specifically, I took a 2 full and a half full courses in the summer (I've already asked and those will count), and took a full course load in the fall/winter session (another 5 full courses). I asked admissions which courses from the fall/winter term they would count, but I couldn't get a clear answer. Perhaps that's because they won't know until they see my application. I was told that with applicants that have a heavier work sometimes more then 5 full courses are considered. Has anyone had a similar experience and would be able to provide some insight? Thanks!
  7. Hey everyone! I recently graduated from a nursing program in Ontario and have decided that I want to write the MCAT this August. The problem is that my nursing program barely covered any of the prerequisite courses that are important for the MCAT - I have two sems of psych/soc, one sem of human biochemistry, and perhaps some physiology- and microbiology-related stuff covered by a couple of my other classes. But I have zero chem, organic chem and physics prereqs. I really can’t afford to take these courses and am hoping I can self study this info with Khan Academy and Kaplan. Just wondering if anyone has done something similar or has any advice for going this route? Thanks in advance!
  8. Hello all. I applied to Bloomberg Nursing in December, and I am just curious to see when they will start releasing admissions. If you have heard anything, please let us know. If you don't mind, please include your statisitcs for others to see, and whether you were accepted, rejected, or waitlisted. Thanks!
