  1. Hello everyone. My GPA for 3rd, 4th and 5th years of undergrad are 3.73, 3.61, 3.7+ respectively. My first year's GPA is not good at all also my first year was 2019-2020 so most schools don't count 2020. In my second year I took winter semester off due to illness but fall semester's gpa is 3.78. Everything is based on OMSAS scale. I have 3 awards ( 1 in research) and I have been active in student government for last 2 years. I am also finishing my undergrad thesis. I started volunteering for external organizations last year but not much hours. I plan to do my MCAT this summer and I think I will do great. What do you all think about my chances for 2025-2026 cycle? I have never applied before. Should I graduate this spring/summer or maybe graduate in fall? meanwhile getting some courses during summer to increase GPA for schools that looks for cGPA? I am also non-trad applicant (26 years old) from Ontario and I am scared that I am getting old. Any advise is appreciated. Thank you
  2. Hi everyone! I am a first-time applicant and have completed my ABS. I know this is last minute but I was wondering if any med students who have gone through this application process would be willing to look over my ABS section? I would really appreciate any help :))
  3. Hello! A massive chunk of my life has been dedicated to my sport, so I have like 20 entries relating to it (lol). I definitely don't have the typical premed profile so if there's anyone willing to help I'd massively appreciate it! I want to do my experiences justice and would appreciate any guidance for writing my entries. Please message me if you have experience listing sports on the ABS
  4. I am in a graduate research thesis program and have presented my research at 6 different regional and international conferences. Although the title of my poster is the same, there are slightly variations in data presented. However, my main concern is if I should group all 6 poster presentations as one single "Research Entry". This would be ideal HOWEVER the "100 Character Limit" for entry description makes grouping next to impossible (For perspective, the name of a single conference takes up 70 Characters). The only way (i see for now) is to list all 6 presentations as individual entries. However, I fear the risk of putting nearly identical experiences and may not look very good to adcoms. What are peoples suggestions, and for those who faced similar issues, how did you go about proceeding it? Thanks a lot!
  5. I requested and was granted a deferral from Med school in Ontario this coming fall. I was told that through OMSAS I will need to submit a certain form by Oct 1st but I can't seem to find it on OMSAS. Has anyone else been through this process and knows what to do or where to find the form? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hello, I am a first-year student at KPU. I am a pre-med student, and I am really confused if KPU is recognized as a university by OMSAS. I cannot find its conversion chart in this - OMSAS - Undergraduate Grade Conversion Table | Ontario Universities' Application Centre (ouac.on.ca) website. Please let me know what I should do. Also, should I directly contact OMSAS with this enquiry, and if so, how? Thank you.
  7. Hi all! I've been overthinking who to pick as my 3rd reference and I've wasted so much time debating what to do and I realise I need to send it out asap! I'd appreciate any insight! A little bit about me...I was a student, TA, RA, lab manager and currently doing a research project all with the same professor, and that's one of my references. While I know she would give me a really solid reference, I feel limited in my references because I feel most people have these (or similar) experiences spread across multiple people but most of my experiences were with her. My 2nd reference is a strong reference for a volunteer position (non-medical setting, I founded & direct a children's program at church). Now my dilemma: Option A: Grad student in the lab - The Grad student observed me work as an RA and grow in this position to become the lab manager, he was the lead TA for the course I was TA-ing, we've worked closely in the past 2 years, he's observed how I work in a team setting (more often than my prof), he's sort of the"middle management" between the prof and I, and he cares about my future goals - BUT, I worry this might come across as redundant, or even a "red flag" that I have two people addressing my work for the same positions or that it looks like I don't have anyone else to talk about me. Option B: Volunteer Co-ordinator at hospital - I moved away from the city where the hospital was, so it has been over a year since I volunteered there. I remember her being overall satisfied with my work and liking me, but she did not really observe me "in action" so doesn't know me too well and honestly probably doesn't really care/ isn't too enthusiastic about completing this. - BUT, it is in a medical setting and might be "safer" if option B is redundant/concerning Thank you SO much for any help with this! I really appreciate any insight. tl;dr: strong (but might be seen redundant/red flag) reference from Grad student who's mentored me and worked closely with me vs weak generic reference from volunteer coordinator?
  8. Hi! Is it necessary to include a personal experience for every essay? I feel like the social media question is more about "what would you do" rather than "what have you previously done." What do you guys think?
  9. Hi Everyone Over the past couple of years I have religiously scrolled through Premed101 with so many doubts in my head; coming across posts that gave me confidence and others that tore it down. After years of hard work, I have finally made that cumbersome leap from a premed to a med student (Bumblebee Class of 2024). I'm still in disbelief that I made it and hope I never lose this feeling. I've found myself reflecting on my journey thus far (thank you Covid19 for all the time) and have come to realize that perseverance and hard work were the stars in my story when everyone and everything around me told me I wasn't good enough. With about a month left before I finally embark on this next chapter of my story, I wanted to use my time to help any of you out there that feel lost, scared, or unsure. As someone that didn't have any mentors on my path to medicine, I think I would've benefited from talking to someone that had gone through the process. Please feel free to message me with any questions you have about Canadian, US, or International medical school admissions or even if you need a friend to vent it all out As a disclaimer, I'm not affiliated with any company/school and will probably not have all the answers, but I can try to give you my thoughts/advice from my own experiences. I'll be here for you if you need it
  10. Hi everyone, I am currently a hospital pharmacist and have completed a clinical pharmacy residency. This was a year long program that included about 8 different clinical rotations (ie. emerg, ICU, psychiatry etc) usually x 4 weeks each. My question is, what would be the best way to enter this? I could do it as a single entry (2500+ hours) or break it down into 8ish different entries (ie. emerg rotation x 250hr etc). Any advice or input would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
  11. Hello everyone, This is my first post on premed101, how exciting! I'm thinking about sending the U of T/Western/Queens/Dalhousie admissions committee a letter regarding the recent announcement that Winter 2020 grades will not be used in GPA calculations this year, and for all subsequent years. I understand that some students have been subject to unfair grading, and would prefer this term not count due to these unforeseen circumstances. However, it hardly seems fair to say point blank that no student's Winter 2020 semester will count as a result. I do have a personal gripe with this decision because I did much better in my fourth year than in any other years, and without my Winter 2020 grades I will hardly be competitive. Ideally, I'd like to see a system where GPA is calculated with/without the winter 2020 semester and the higher one be taken. Or that students are given an option on OMSAS where they can select whether or not they'd like the last semester included (given that every applicant probably knows whether or not Winter 2020 will help or harm their GPA) Does anyone else feel similarly? Do you think sending a letter is a smart choice? (Note: I'd be happy to post my draft here, or email it to anyone who'd like to look it over). I really can't tell if I'm justified in my upset with all this. Thanks everyone, T
  12. Hi! I'm looking for some advice on the confidential assessment form and choosing references for OMSAS. I'm a Quebec applicant and QC schools don't ask for reference forms/letters so I don't know too much about this. I saw on the OMSAS and Ontario med school websites that we're asked to provide one academic- or employment reference and one personal (non-academic) reference. I've been able to get a professor of mine and my research supervisor to be my academic references (they both know me pretty well). I've also asked my manager of 2 years (I work in retail) who I'm really close to to also be my reference, and I feel she's able to speak about my personal qualities as well as professional. My only concern is that my manager can fit in both categories (employment/personal-character) and I don't know how strict Ontario med schools are about the two categories of references and wouldn't want my application to get rejected for such a small technicality. If anyone can clear this up and let me know if my references are okay, it would be great! Also, are references for Ontario med schools part of the selection process (for example, McMaster is 32% GPA, 32% CARS, and 32% Casper) or are they used just to make sure the applicant is not a red flag? thanks
  13. Is it possible to use an official co-curricular record (issued by the university and stamped by the dean) as a verifier for extra-curricular activities listed? Is it possible to upload such a document to OMSAS? If not, is there really any point in getting one? Other grad school apps? Thanks!
  14. Hi everyone, I will be applying to the French stream at uOttawa this year (Social Accountability Initiative). For the OMSAS application, do I need to complete it in french? Do you know where can I attach the financial documentation necessary for the Social Accountability Initiative? Also, I come from a single-parent household. Do I need to write an explanatory letter as to why I am only including my single-parent's financial documentation? Thanks for your help!
  15. Does anyone else's MCAT score show up on OMSAS in the document tracking? I sent mine from AAMC a while ago and they still aren't there. Thanks! edit: just read this "OMSAS will not upload MCAT scores until October 18, 2019. The deadline for the receipt of MCAT scores is November…"
  16. Hi, I have a referee filling out the CAF (OMSAS reference form) and I need help with this one question on "are of improvement". Does anyone have good suggestions or examples of what profs usually put for that category? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you
  17. So, I heard that an A (80-89%) at York University which converts to a 3.8 on OMSAS is a 4.0 when converted to Amcas. I was wondering if anyone has any information on this. Thanks
  18. Hi, So I'm applying to med school this fall and I'm a bit confused about the OMSAS application. For each activity, I have to enter the number of hours but is that hours/week? or hours/month? or total hours? uOttawa specifies that it can be either hours/week or hours/month? But what if I'm applying to different schools at a time? When I'm doing my app do I have to specify which it is? Thanks in advance
