Salut, Je suis actuellement en génie et prévois graduer en avril. J'ai décidé de changer de carrière et de m'inscrire en pharmacie à l'Université Laval. Cependant, je me demande si je serai considéré comme un étudiant diplômé ou plutôt comme un étudiant en changement de programme. Je pose cette question parce que je n'ai pas beaucoup d'expérience dans le domaine pharmaceutique, donc je crains que le fait d'avoir un questionnaire de 15 % plutôt que de 25 % puisse influencer la décision finale. Est-ce que quelqu'un connaît la réponse à cette question ? Merci!

Pharmacist Applying To Medicine

Hi, I'm a pharmacist working in Ontario and wish to apply for medicine (it was always the goal -- long story). I've been able to pay off loans and whatnot and now am ready to apply. My stats are: UofT undergrad: 2.68 Pharmacy undergrad (completed in the UK): 3.36 MCAT: 506 (125/127/127/127) Quite extensive EC (sports, arts, dance, community work both within lower-income and new immigrants) No publications/research completed as of yet My gameplan is to do another UG and redo the MCAT. The next UG degree is actually something I'm interested in and was going to do if I didn't get into the pharmacy program in the UK. Anyways, I don't mind the long road (being financially stable and relatively young helps), and am interested to do a masters as well to strengthen my application. There will be research and a publication I will be participating in over the summer of 2017. As for work, I'm working part-time/relief so I can devote all my time to my studies. Just looking for any feedback, guidance, critiques, or suggestions for things that I may have overlooked. Thanks for taking the time to read through this. -
Hello Everyone/Salut tout le monde! I am a Quebec university student who is graduating from undergrad this semester. I’m planning on applying to a DESS (Diplôme d’études supérieures spécialisées) program at Université de Montréal before applying to Medicine and Pharmacy next application cycle. Let's cut to the chase: I’m wondering if being part of a DESS program will significantly hurt my chances of being accepted to the Quebec Medical schools, compared to a full-on Masters degree. Pros to the DESS (in my opinion): DESS programs are only 1 year of full time study, and many of them offer doing an additional year of directed study or a stage somewhere. Upon completing the additional year, I would graduate with a full Masters degree. Research isn’t really my favourite, and I would prefer to do a more application-based program, but not if it will hurt my chances, or not improve my chances, at getting into Med/Pharm . Cons to the DESS (possibly?): When I apply during the next application cycle, they will see that I have been working on a DESS instead of a Masters degree (not sure if this one counts as a Con or not, that's why I'm asking here!). I haven’t seen this discussed anywhere else, so if anyone has anecdotes or feedback of any kind to share about this situation, I would really appreciate them! -

Et si vous avez du temps, pourriez vous me donner des informations sur les cours, l’ambiance,les profs et la charge de travail ? Merci d’avance ! -

Hi Everyone, I hope that everyone's staying well during these unprecedented times! Since I originally posted in the University Of Alberta 2020 Pharmacy Applicants - Class Of 2024 page, I've been getting an overwhelming amount of students reaching out to me who feel extremely overwhelmed by the application process, and how to get into pharmacy school. I completely understand how daunting it can be - especially with components of the application such as the interview and the letter of intent, which you may have not had experience with before. Common questions that have come up include things like how important is work/volunteer experience as part of my application, and how do I get a job/volunteer experience in the field? What percentage of my application is weighted on grades, and what percentage is weighted on my letter of intent and interview? How important are my written (LOI) and verbal communication skills (interview), and how do I improve them? As I mentioned in my original post, over the past few years, I've had a string of success in helping several different individuals in getting into the program at the UofA, including several of my own staff that I hired as pharmacy assistants before they were admitted. Looking back, I really wish I had access to these resources, and if I did, I would've changed my application approach entirely knowing what I do now, and would've started preparing for my application much, much earlier than I did. And so, because I've had so many reach out to me directly, I've really come to recognize just how scarce the information and resources are out there. Bonjour à tous! Je vous explique un peu ma situation. Je veux vraiment devenir pharmacienne. Je n'avais pas les notes en sortant du cégep, j'ai donc fait une mineure en biologie (qui s'est plus ou moins bien déroulé) et je suis maintenant à ma deuxième année du bac en psycho (qui va super bien, j'ai 4.1 sur 4,33). J'ai été refusée pour le doctorat en pharmacie pour l'automne 2020 et j'ai donc demandé ma CRU: 30,269. Maintenant, je tente de voir des programmes pour après mon bac afin de monter ma CRU. J'ai pensé au bac en sciences biopharmaceutiques. Je sais que c'est un gros programme mais je pense que ça pourrait m'intéresser si pharmacie ne fonctionne pas. Je me demande si certains d'entre vous ont des conseils pour rentrer en pharmacie, ou si certains sont dans le BSBP, quelles sont vos opinions, la difficulté/possibilité d'avoir des bonnes notes, votre GPA et votre CRU si vous l'avez, et si vous avez réussi à entrer en pharmacie. Aussi, avec une CRU de 30,269 , croyez-vous que je peux rentrer au BSBP? C'est inscrit que la cote R est de 28 pour rentrer alors je pense que oui mais je voudrait votre avis. N'hésitez pas à ajouter toutes autres infos que vous trouvez pertinente! Merci de prendre le temps de répondre, j'ai besoin de conseils!

Hello Everyone! I am a pharmacist and have completed a Canadian hospital pharmacy residency. This was a year long paid position involving a variety of 4 week clinical rotations (ie. ICU, cardiology, psychiatry etc) as well as a research project. I am debating how best to enter this type of experience. It will end up in the employment section of course. I am just curious what people think about the following strategies: 1. One 2500+ hour entry covering the residency year 2. Divided into multiple sections in order to give better description of each (ie. ICU rotation 250 hours, etc) My concern with 1 is that it would be pretty tough to discuss the whole year in 350 characters. And of course option 2 might look odd as would require 8ish smaller entries. Let me know what you think! All input is greatly appreciated! Thank you very much -
Hello Prospective Pharmacy Student! Imagine putting in every ounce of energy you have into your pharmacy school application only to wake up to an email containing a rejection letter - it can be incredibly discouraging. What's more is that there is such limited information available to guide you through your application process, and to advise you what's most important in your application. Is it your prerequisite GPA? Your cumulative GPA? Is it your work experience? Your interview or letter of intent? I can tell you by far the biggest mistake that applicants make is focusing all of their efforts into their grades and academic standing. Hi everyone, I am currently a hospital pharmacist and have completed a clinical pharmacy residency. This was a year long program that included about 8 different clinical rotations (ie. emerg, ICU, psychiatry etc) usually x 4 weeks each. My question is, what would be the best way to enter this? I could do it as a single entry (2500+ hours) or break it down into 8ish different entries (ie. emerg rotation x 250hr etc). Any advice or input would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Bonjour, j'ai fini le cégep récemment et j'ai été accepté en Nutrition à McGill et en kinésiologie à Udem. J'attends encore la réponse pour kinésiologie à McGill. Je voudrais savoir si kinésiologie est un bon programme pour ensuite aller en pharmacie (après 1 ans environ). J'ai parlé à un pharmacien et c'est ce qu'il a fait. Aussi, est-ce que le programme de kinésiologie est plus facile et permet de bien augmenter la cote r à McGill ou à Udem?

Hello! Est-ce que quelqu’un a déjà appliqué en médecine, pharmacie, physiothérapie, optométrie ou nutrition à l’UdeM après avoir obtenu un bac en droit de l’UdeM? Quelle était votre cote au BAC? Quelle était votre CRU? J’essaie d’avoir une idée de ce que pourrait être la CRU à l’udem avec 3.7/4.3 dans un bac en droit. Merci!

Hey everyone here is a thread for this year's Pharmacy applicants at the UofS (a tad late, but I had some questions). Just wondering if because of the additional year of pre reqs added on starting this year for the PharmD, if we think our individual chances of getting in will be better? I'm not sure how many first years applied in previous years, but would the lack of first years applying this year mean there is less competition? I am OOP and just wondering what your thoughts were on this. Thanks and goodluck!

Hiii, I can't find any stats on U of A website regarding previous year admission statistics for pharm so I was looking for some insight into my chances. I have my BSc. Last two years GPA- 3.8 Highest year GPA- 3.81 Prereq GPA- 3.4 (yeet) but still have two courses to take next semester which will count towards this GPA. Experience: Shadowed a hospital pharmacist for a month and a half (once a week) in 2016 as well as a retail pharmacist. Lots of health care volunteering and shadowing. Thanks so much in advance!
