  1. Hello everyone. I made this forum to discuss the application to the UAlberta PharmD program for the 2024-25 year. Good luck to all those applying.
  2. Hi, This is my second year applying. Was hoping we could get a group started prepping materials for casper and interviews, and any other general q&a about the application process. Can make a discord/whatsapp chat later maybe?
Merci!
  4. Hi everyone, Thought it may be helpful to start a thread for prospective UBC PharmD students applying to start the program in September 2019. The application deadline is January 15, 2019. More info can be found on: https://pharmsci.ubc.ca/programs/entry-practice-pharmd-degree If you have any questions/comments/discussion, please post below!
  5. Starting a new thread for UBC's Entry-to-Practice PharmD (Class of 2027), since I don’t see one already made. If anyone has any comments or questions, please post below! Good luck everyone!
  6. Seeing as there was no other thread for UBC's Entry-to-Practice PharmD application cycle this year (Class of 2025), I decided to make one looking at other threads from previous years that I found were really helpful. If anyone has any comments or questions, please post below! Good luck everyone with your applications!
  7. For applicants who are hoping to be accepted for 2022 intake/ admission cycle. Would love to start preparing for PIQs interviews
  8. Armed or Alarmed? Share your thoughts on alert management, and how you manage EUFMD alerts as a pharma manufacturer by completing this survey https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdnnS_8WpI0zZ70b1Wgu7QBsF2Veq0ktd4gF9dvQndyLiIfyQ/viewform In this survey, we seek to understand more about the different experience our clients and peers are having with processing and managing alerts. We would be most grateful for a few short minutes of your time in completing this. Your answers will be entirely anonymous, but will help us to build a better picture of the key challenges facing our industry.

  10. Hi, I'm a pharmacist working in Ontario and wish to apply for medicine (it was always the goal -- long story). I've been able to pay off loans and whatnot and now am ready to apply. My stats are: UofT undergrad: 2.68 Pharmacy undergrad (completed in the UK): 3.36 MCAT: 506 (125/127/127/127) Quite extensive EC (sports, arts, dance, community work both within lower-income and new immigrants) No publications/research completed as of yet My gameplan is to do another UG and redo the MCAT. The next UG degree is actually something I'm interested in and was going to do if I didn't get into the pharmacy program in the UK. Anyways, I don't mind the long road (being financially stable and relatively young helps), and am interested to do a masters as well to strengthen my application. There will be research and a publication I will be participating in over the summer of 2017. As for work, I'm working part-time/relief so I can devote all my time to my studies. Just looking for any feedback, guidance, critiques, or suggestions for things that I may have overlooked. Thanks for taking the time to read through this.
  11. Hello Everyone/Salut tout le monde! I am a Quebec university student who is graduating from undergrad this semester. I’m planning on applying to a DESS (Diplôme d’études supérieures spécialisées) program at Université de Montréal before applying to Medicine and Pharmacy next application cycle. Let's cut to the chase: I’m wondering if being part of a DESS program will significantly hurt my chances of being accepted to the Quebec Medical schools, compared to a full-on Masters degree. Pros to the DESS (in my opinion): DESS programs are only 1 year of full time study, and many of them offer doing an additional year of directed study or a stage somewhere. Upon completing the additional year, I would graduate with a full Masters degree. Research isn’t really my favourite, and I would prefer to do a more application-based program, but not if it will hurt my chances, or not improve my chances, at getting into Med/Pharm . Cons to the DESS (possibly?): When I apply during the next application cycle, they will see that I have been working on a DESS instead of a Masters degree (not sure if this one counts as a Con or not, that's why I'm asking here!). I haven’t seen this discussed anywhere else, so if anyone has anecdotes or feedback of any kind to share about this situation, I would really appreciate them!
Merci d’avance !
  13. Hi Everyone, I hope that everyone's staying well during these unprecedented times! Since I originally posted in the University Of Alberta 2020 Pharmacy Applicants - Class Of 2024 page, I've been getting an overwhelming amount of students reaching out to me who feel extremely overwhelmed by the application process, and how to get into pharmacy school. I completely understand how daunting it can be - especially with components of the application such as the interview and the letter of intent, which you may have not had experience with before. Common questions that have come up include things like how important is work/volunteer experience as part of my application, and how do I get a job/volunteer experience in the field? What percentage of my application is weighted on grades, and what percentage is weighted on my letter of intent and interview? How important are my written (LOI) and verbal communication skills (interview), and how do I improve them? As I mentioned in my original post, over the past few years, I've had a string of success in helping several different individuals in getting into the program at the UofA, including several of my own staff that I hired as pharmacy assistants before they were admitted. Looking back, I really wish I had access to these resources, and if I did, I would've changed my application approach entirely knowing what I do now, and would've started preparing for my application much, much earlier than I did. And so, because I've had so many reach out to me directly, I've really come to recognize just how scarce the information and resources are out there. I wanted to reach out and create a separate post to let you know that if you're looking for some advice from an independent pharmacy operator and recent graduate, shoot me an email (choi.chung913@gmail.com) and I'd love to connect with you to see how I can help with your questions! Best of luck for those applying this upcoming year, and for those who've already gotten an acceptance letter, congratulations!
  15. Creating this thread for all pharmacy applicants this year!! Hows everyone's stats looking?
  16. Hello Everyone! I am a pharmacist and have completed a Canadian hospital pharmacy residency. This was a year long paid position involving a variety of 4 week clinical rotations (ie. ICU, cardiology, psychiatry etc) as well as a research project. I am debating how best to enter this type of experience. It will end up in the employment section of course. I am just curious what people think about the following strategies: 1. One 2500+ hour entry covering the residency year 2. Divided into multiple sections in order to give better description of each (ie. ICU rotation 250 hours, etc) My concern with 1 is that it would be pretty tough to discuss the whole year in 350 characters. And of course option 2 might look odd as would require 8ish smaller entries. Let me know what you think! All input is greatly appreciated! Thank you very much
  17. Hello Prospective Pharmacy Student! Imagine putting in every ounce of energy you have into your pharmacy school application only to wake up to an email containing a rejection letter - it can be incredibly discouraging. What's more is that there is such limited information available to guide you through your application process, and to advise you what's most important in your application. Is it your prerequisite GPA? Your cumulative GPA? Is it your work experience? Your interview or letter of intent? I can tell you by far the biggest mistake that applicants make is focusing all of their efforts into their grades and academic standing. About Me I'm a 2017 graduate from the University of Alberta and the owner/manager of an innovative, highly-clinical based independent pharmacy practice in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In 2020, I was recognized with a prestigious APEX award from the Alberta College of Pharmacy and Alberta Pharmacists Association. Over the past few years, I've held a 100% success rate in coaching several different applicants towards their admission into the Faculty of Pharmacy program at the UofA using my extensive combined experience as a pharmacy graduate, pharmacy owner, and clinical pharmacist. My Approach A successful applicant is backed by a strong, well-articulated letter of intent, and interview, which is where most applicants fail to stand out. I help coach students 6 to 8 months before their target application deadline by giving them proven strategies to ensure their applications are well-rounded enough to give them the competitive advantage they need to stand out from the hundreds to thousands of other applicants applying each year. Outside of this, I also help coach students towards finding the pharmacy volunteer / work experience they need to truly enhance their application, which I understand can be an incredibly daunting process. Services and Availability Given my busy pharmacy practice and schedule, I only have the ability to offer a limited number of students the opportunity to work with me at this time, as some spots have already been reserved for those who had reached out to me since my original post in the Pharmacy Discussions forum. And so, if you're serious about being competitive with your application this upcoming year or in the upcoming future, and you're interested in working with me, shoot me an email (choi.chung913@gmail.com) and I'd be happy to meet with you virtually or in-person for an initial consultation to learn more about your unique needs, discuss how I'm able to help, what my competitive rates look like, and to see if there's a possibility we can work together. Looking forward to helping you reach your goal of getting into the pharmacy program!
  18. Bonjour ! Merci beaucoup
  19. Hi everyone, I am currently a hospital pharmacist and have completed a clinical pharmacy residency. This was a year long program that included about 8 different clinical rotations (ie. emerg, ICU, psychiatry etc) usually x 4 weeks each. My question is, what would be the best way to enter this? I could do it as a single entry (2500+ hours) or break it down into 8ish different entries (ie. emerg rotation x 250hr etc). Any advice or input would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
Merci!
  22. Hey everyone here is a thread for this year's Pharmacy applicants at the UofS (a tad late, but I had some questions). Just wondering if because of the additional year of pre reqs added on starting this year for the PharmD, if we think our individual chances of getting in will be better? I'm not sure how many first years applied in previous years, but would the lack of first years applying this year mean there is less competition? I am OOP and just wondering what your thoughts were on this. Thanks and goodluck!
  23. i can't seem to stop stressing! Could someone please tell me what my chances are for the UofA PharmD program? I am an in-province applicant! Prereq GPA: 3.60 2nd year GPA: 3.73 (10 classes total) 3rd year GPA: likely 3.75 (9 classes total) Thank you!!!
  24. Hiii, I can't find any stats on U of A website regarding previous year admission statistics for pharm so I was looking for some insight into my chances. I have my BSc. Last two years GPA- 3.8 Highest year GPA- 3.81 Prereq GPA- 3.4 (yeet) but still have two courses to take next semester which will count towards this GPA. Experience: Shadowed a hospital pharmacist for a month and a half (once a week) in 2016 as well as a retail pharmacist. Lots of health care volunteering and shadowing. Thanks so much in advance!
