Blackberry vs Iphone

Hello everyone!

I would really like some of your opinions on this. Right now I have an iphone 3G (no data plan). I'm reasonably happy with it. I use it mostly to check my email (using wifi), go on facebook (great app), listen to music (love that it has the ipod integrated), and watch videos on youtube.

However, recently, i've had the need to be more mobile with responding to my emails. I'm not so happy with the iphone's email capabilities (right now i'm using the internet browser to check my shaw webmail).

Blackberry phones have amazing email capabilities, the use of BBM etc.

Though, i'd have to get an ipod touch to use as my ipod.

What's everyone thinking?

If your an email buff like me, go with blackberry. They are hands down the best email phones out there. I had the bold 9000, got the iphone 4 (was disappointed with email system, no BBM etc) and switched back to bold 9700.

If you need a music and video player, just get the ipod touch

Personally, as a student I think you could get by simply by using your iPhone.

The app store is MASSIVE. Chances are you will find a great email app. Even if you had to spend money ($3-$5?) on a quality app, its a hell of a lot cheaper than a new phone :P

Im a huge fan of the integrated ipod as well! I have a question about your touch screen: Assuming you are canadian, how does your screen hold up again cold winter days? I have a blackberry storm and cold renders the touch screen useless. Im also thinking about getting an iphone but the thought of the touch screen doing the same thing as my BB storm is making me wonder whether I should or not.

I am Canadian, but i'm from the west coast. We don't get nearly as cold as the East does, so i'm probably not the best person to answer your question about the screen.

I do have some experience with rain, though. The iphone screen doesn't function when wet :P

I have a berry. It's an excellent phone for email and messaging. I want to get the new Torch. Has anyone used it?

For Internet I used the iPad. One of my best purchases because I use it everyday, especially for Net and reading/marking up PDF's.

Hopefully its usable for med school (*fingers crossed* if i get in!).

Yes I have the torch. I switched from a pearl to a torch. And I must say I love the torch especially the big screen, the clarity, the option of using touch screen and a keypad (I use the touch screen when scrolling and switching between applications but use the keypad when typing - I simply can't get used to typing on screen). It is also pretty fast when browsing the internet and the email is great. The only downsides I would say are its large size, its bigger and heavier compared to other blackberries, and I have really small hands so I've dropped it countless times. There are many cases available, but they make the phone more bulkier. Another thing I don't like is when you are talking on the phone, your ear/the side of your face touches the touch screen, and touches the "mute" and "speaker" buttons, which is really annoying. Other than that, its a great phone :)

Neither, get an Android phone! Integrate all your mail into gmail. I have about 9 email accounts all forwarded and handled by gmail. Everything, documents, calendar, contacts, favourites, etc are synced with my gmail account. When I get an email, it automatically sends from the same account the email was sent to; that way you can continue using any email account you want and nobody will know.

Also, Android has a plethora of amazing music applications making an iPod irrelevant.

Black berry and Iphone both are best smart phone. I am using a iphone. Iphone have its own operating system. I like the Iphone application and it functionality, great touch screen access. Black berry is first business phone and also provide the latest functionality but iphone is best for me.

It's a tough call.

I switched from a Torch to a IP4S mostly because of reliability issues. My Torch for some reason has problems with its alarm clock not going off randomly and, of course, the infamous Blackberry Service drops which crashes BBM and email service for hours at a time (or days in the case of the blackout last year). With all of my email addresses (4 now) feeding into one mailbox, the service drops were unbearable for me.

The iphone 4S is certainly more reliable but when both phones are working at 100% capacity the Blackberry is BY FAR more productive. The physical buttons are absolutely a must have if you are a email hog like me. And I miss the text scrolling function of the blackberry...with an iphone it's practically impossible to correct spelling mistakes without deleting the whole word.

I would go back to a Blackberry if they get themselves and their service issues straightened out and their products up to par with current generations of smartphones. For now I'm enjoying the option of messing with my iOS by jailbreaking the hell out of it.

the functionality of an iphone is much more than that of any other phones.. the amount apps there are is amazing. and its true.. that there is an app for everything. you just have to be good at technology ("jailbreak it") and you have at your disposal everything you would ever need to make your life efficient.

I'm just now upgrading from a really retro (ahem) flip phone to an iphone 4s. Just waitin' on the post!

The number of medical school related applications available on the iphone was the tipping point.

Good luck with what you decide!

Most of the best ones are one android too...

Black berry is the good for professional usage. It’s easy to send bulk mails. I phone is something people buy for show or as a prestige item.

Apparently the Q10 is being released in two weeks here in Canada (april 30th).

I am pretty excited, I am little tired of my Samsung S3. As much as I love pretty much everything about the phone except for; the 70$/m plan, annoying touch screen unresponsiveness and the size.. I want a keyboard!!

My BB9900 was much better than this phone and cheaper on the wallet! For 45$ I could get free facebook/bbm/msn/twitter(not that I use that)...I need to pay 70$/m to get 1GB of data..BLEH!! Not to mention the goofiness of the size of the phone.

Give me my blackberry!

As for this thread, I am a person believer that Iphones are for fun and Blackberries are for Business. Obviously there are equilibriums in both but I will stay with Blackberry as long as they keep the physics keyboard and solid foundation in their phones.
