pre requisites/ major etc

Recommended Posts

Heyy,

I am an international student and I got accepted to College of Arts and Sciences. I am quite frankly very lost at this point. I don't know what to major in, what courses to take etc. I have never come across the term 'credits' in my entire life :o I would be very glad if someone can please help me out. Let's suppose I want to major in Biology and eventually apply to Medical, Dental or pharmacy school, what's the best way to go about it? Any mark boosting advise? any classes I should take in summer (I see many students taking English in summer)? I suck at Math and Physics if that helps. I'm good at Biology and Chemistry though and I took Sociology in high school and found it quite easy :o Registration opens in like 6 hours and I still have no idea what to select :(

Go look at the "Mark Boosting Advice From Upper Years!" thread... there are a lot of mark boosting electives, such as:

-Econ 111 and 114 (It is not hard to get above 95% given the prof. uses the same questions)

-Kin 121 and 122 (Extremely easy to get above 95% with last day studying)

-Clas 103 (Easy and will help you with future medical classes)

-Psy 110 (they split it into two components) (Psy 110 was easy to get above 90% in; now they made the task even easier [oh, theres a 5% bonus as well])

If I were you, I would avoid taking 200 level electives (given they are designed for students that already have an introduction into university and are hard)

Choose a class and look up the professors name at:

Major:

For 1st year, do the BMSC core platform (search that on google) and pick your classes accordingly to the schedule they posted... or you could not declare for first year and declare later on... If you want the easiest degree, do Kin (with a 'bit' of hard work getting a 95% 2 year average is possible) same with econ/commerce, psychology...

Thank you so much! That was helpful, Right now I'm deciding what to take in my first year first term semester (btw, do we need to register for second term right now as well?). This is what I'm thinking of taking right now:

Biol 120.3

Biol 121.3

Chem 112.3

Soc 111.3

Soc 112.3

Is this fine? Does it meet all requirements and will it be easy to manage?

If not then what changes should I make?

Thanks for your help!

edit: or is this better?

BIOL 120.3

Chem 112.3

Phy 115.3

Soc 111.3

Kin 121/ Econ 111/ Psy 110

No thats not a good schedule, and you can pick 2nd year classes right now (saves you a spot given you'll be registering ASAP)

And I'm surprised you procrastinated in choosing classes (but I'm not the one to judge...) So, heres the BMSC core platform:

I would choose two intro-psy courses and kin 121 as first year electives and the other classes are posted in the schedule itself...

Good luck!

Mind if I ask where you're coming from?! You're English is pretty good... Oh, forgot you sucked at math/phys... well if you take english in the summer... (you will have to take physics/math in the year :)

haha thanks, I'm from Pakistan :P

I can't take Math right now (from what I understand) because I did not take it in high school. Is this schedule any better? (I plan on majoring in Bio, not Bio medical sciences)

BIOL 120.3

Chem 112.3

Phy 115.3

Soc 111.3

Kin 121/ Econ 111/ Psy 110
