Solidify
Hi, I'm 21, male and have bad toe pains. I tried looking up photos online to compare my toe nails but I have a really weak stomach and even the mere thought of my toenail being cut sends shivers down my spine. I think I will need to undergo surgery for my toe but would not be able to do so for the life of me unless I was put to sleep (I would freak out). Can someone take a look at photos of both my big toes and tell me what I need to do? I scared about going into a private podiatry clinic. I used to have pain when I had tight shoes on, since my toes were squished together, but not just by putting pressure on my foot, my nail digs into my toe (it worsened). I know all about cutting the nail straight and not rounding it but I cant do much more. http://i.minus.com/iUafiwjP0qOYZ.JPG http://i.minus.com/iszPZUnUljnx1.JPG http://i.minus.com/ie39G7KmzkO7a.JPG
ArchEnemy
Hey Solidify, I edited your post because the pictures attached are too big (and hence against forum rules). I would like to remind you that this is a forum after all and it is in your best interest to visit your GP or podiatrist to assess the condition. Neither of them will force you to undergo a procedure that you are not comfortable with.
hexonu
Would you be more comfortable with nurses? There are clinics that are run by nurses who specialize in foot care and sometimes even come to you. Try to google and see what you come up with. Solidify
I ended up going to a private podiatry clinic. Didn't go well. I thought he would have to remove the nail but he won't. Option 1 (which i did) was to remove the dead skin and then cut the sides of the nail at an angle to free it up from the toe abit (he didn't do that second part because i was freaking out so he stopped after he cleaned out the dead skin) so technically its not complete. And option 2 is to numb my toe and then cut off a big chunk straight down on both sides of the toe, put some type of acid and then burn the root at that spot so that it wont ever grow back that close to the toe. The second option is 325$ for first edge and then 100$ extra for each side you do. So i have a problem with one toe (both sides) and the other toe is only one side.. So it would be 525$ + 45$ local anesthesia = 570$ I wasn't numbed whatsoever. I was hysterical, practically hyperventilating.. I could tell that the doc was thinking "I don't have time for this ****", considering the vast majority of his clients are elders that sit there like logs, lifeless. I watched this video so I can learn how to cut my nails properly but I don't understand one thing: about 32 seconds into the video, there's a snapshot of a lady getting her toenail clipped with a big one shot clipper. Take note of the way the entire nail is being bent while the person is clipping it like that. I would be able to do my small toes like that but I'd never manage to do that in one shot for the other nails since they don't have that much flex and are rounded.. I hope you understand what I'm explaining. Also, the way that cut is being made, it would leave pointy edges on the side of the nail after it has been cut. How would that make sense? Wouldn't those edges, even If they're filed down a bit, still hurt when they get caught in your socks or make contact with your neighboring toes? I've been trying to find videos online that show how to cut nails properly (both feet and hands) but I'm afraid to stumble onto something graphic. somaleon
Why are you scared? It's a procedure under anesthesia. And yet, I personally like the pain of a nailbed, so I occasionally nail it. Hahaha, long live the pain!
