I'm guessing you really want to get into Ophthalmology? It's better if primary care expands but don't worry, optometrists will never overshadow ophthalmologists.

Ophthalmologists are surgeons, that's not the job of optometrists. 

Optometrists should be able to do everything they can do to treat eye diseases without surgery, and ophthalmologists should focus on surgery.

I've never heard of optometrists pretending to be surgeons ?!?!

That perception probably stems from the dogfight that's happening in the states over OD's trying to gain surgical privileges. They can perform LASIK in 2-3 states and OMD's aren't happy about it.

Doesn't seem like an issue around here yet.
