pcrgel
Hey, I just realized that I put a professor as one of my references. They got to know me well during the course. However it says on the website that they have to be your research supervisor or you must have volunteered with them. Do you think this is a big issue? Is there a way around this? Can I email them asking them to change the reference or should I avoid bringing attention to this mistake? Thanks
B3.572A
I myself debated for quite a long time whether to put a professor who knew me very well as a referee. I emailed the office about it before the deadline, and they just replied saying that requirements were clearly outlined in the document. Honestly, I do not understand why they had this restriction. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that UofS applications do not allow space for descriptions of your extracurricular activities, such as research, employment and volunteer experience. So maybe this is a way to ensure that an application possesses some of these experience?
pcrgel
Thanks for the response. Yeah I don't know what to do. If I email them about it do you think they will let me change the reference? or do you think I should ignore it and hope for the best
B3.572A
I do not know. They have specifically indicated that referees are not to be changed after the deadline; only contact information changeable. Sorry I could not be more helpful. Hope you are able to find some way to deal with it, and hope it will not cause trouble to your application.
MD2B2019
Just my 2 cents. Myself first time applied to Saskatchewan. So don't believe me. Your best outcome is Saskatchewan didn't call your Professor. Your worst outcome is you called Saskatchewan to notice them and they FLAG you. There's no way you can change reference's name after deadline, that's clearly print on the application form. If I'm you, I'll contact my professor to let him/her know this situation, and hope my professor will put some good words for me, if Saskatchewan called. Like how he/she help me writing a paper or report or advice me how to select courses to get into MD schools something like he/she is on a adviser role, not just a professor for a course. Chinese saying, no good words to say, just don't say. Wish you the best.
sunday
ugh, i did the same thing. two profs involved in my research and one that knows me really well but isn't involved at all with my research/volunteering/employment. i have a 37 mcat so i'm assuming as an oop i'll get an interview invite but i don't want to waste an airplane ticket if my application is invalid. i can probably get another person in my lab or a former employer to serve as my reference but they state it's too late to change the person. MathToMed
If you make it to the interview stage, your application is valid. If it's invalid, they wouldn't bother interviewing you.
r4744
Any chance anyone knows where we can go to verify the contact info for our referees? It says in the document we can update the contact info (but not the referees) until March 30?

It says in the document we can update the contact info (but not the referees) until March 30? I emailed admissions and they were able to update a referee's information. As long as you put in an applicant number to help them find your file, you should be fine.

Almighty Saguaro
Did any of you ever figure out if they will accept references from profs? Does the answer change if you were also involved in some extracurricular activity with the prof?
haps
Did any of you ever figure out if they will accept references from profs? Does the answer change if you were also involved in some extracurricular activity with the prof? The answer is still the same: only if they were your supervisor is it okay. To answer your question abiut extracirricular... same concept. Just ask yourself if you were an employer who asked for a reference of someone who supervised the applicant, would you accept your example? While I don't agree with the way UofS med handles acceptances etc, I think they did a bang up job outlining what they want out of their applicants. I would just stick to what is written in the manual.

haps
What about a prof who supervised you in lectures and labs? I'm just not sure what "supervision" has to entail... My interpretation of "Referees Umust have supervisedU you either as a research supervisor or have been your immediate supervisor in a volunteer role or employment capacity." excludes a professor you knew in in the capacity of a 'professor' or 'lecturer.' If you also did research for them, then that would be fine. Additionally, you can email the CoM and they can give you more guidance. Though, this may be one of those things that is so straightforward that they may just reply to the email with a caption of the applicant manual. DNM
I just realized that I did the same thing, except the deadline did not pass. I already submitted my applications and I cannot make changes to it. Should I email admissions and ask how to proceed?
