dr-m-s
When the application is sent, the computer automatically filters out the best year, right, the one which is above the gpa cutoff of 3.7? Does the admissions committee see the years during which you have not achieved the cutoff?

Does the admissions committee see the years during which you have not achieved the cutoff? years other than your best two (that meet the rules) have no effect on your application. They effectively do not exist.
dr-m-s
so, if at the time of application you only have 1 year above cutoff, the other years will still be non existent, right? No full file review will take those bad years in consideration?

If you have at least one year above the GPA cut off you would move to the MCAT review and then if both passed onto the interview phase.
Emojis4Life
I'm not sure if this has been discussed on this forum already but what is the chance Western will increase its GPA requirement (i.e. higher than a 3.7) or change its two-year rule now that the new MCAT has started? I really really hope that the GPA requirement doesn't change but I'm not so sure. Any thoughts?

The GPA in the past has been as high as 3.75 per year but that was a while ago. Seem more likely they will focus on working out how to use the MCAT but that is must my personal speculation. rmorelan
How much emphasis is put on the ECs at Western? none directly as far as we absolutely can tell Not factored in prior to interview for sure, no organized systemic review is done as far as we know (extremely likely we would know about it as logistically that is kind of hard to hide)... of course it can be evaluated to a point during the interview phase. despmed
Just to clarify - the best two years MUST have at least 5 courses each semester, and at least 3/5 of the courses should be pertaining to that year level, correct?
Emojis4Life
Yes that's right! In fourth year, 3rd/4th year courses pertain to the correct level.

Yes, basically. So for 3rd and 4th year, 3/5 courses must be 3rd year level or above. Also, out of the 5 courses, if any one of the courses is being repeated, then it does not count as a fifth course. So, if one of the five courses that is being taken is being repeated, then a 6th course mst be taken.

(for both semesters) yes basically (although to be complete you could take any combination of 3rd or 4th year courses that add up to 6. Actually 3rd and 4th year courses are interchangable - something to remember for year 4)
wondergirl
Hi! I had a quick question! In the Western Med acceptances forum, many have stated their GPA as wGPA. As far as I know, Western looks at two years individually, but have they changed it as of 2017, like weighted average?? Thank you

Thank you Nope it's 2Y, people just enter it in the wrong format likely because they also applied to other schools like Utoronto that use cGPA. nataliemich
If you are repeating a course that is required for your to confer your degree (a mandatory, non-elective course), will that still fall into the category that "it won't count for GPA purposes"? I don't they make any acknowledgement of that as being different - you still need 5.0 credits of non repeated courses for the year. Is it possible to take that course in the summer?
