Pa: A Bachelor's Or Master's Degree

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

McMaster offers the PA program as a 2 year, bachelor's degree. U of T and Manitoba offer the program as a two year master's level degree.

It seems very odd that McMaster would offer the program at an undergraduate level to be completed in two years? Especially given a bachelor's degree is required to apply.

Any thoughts as to when/or if McMaster will change their program to a 2 year graduate level program? Will recent McMaster PA graduates see this change reflected on their university diploma?

Feel free to chime in...

Zookinator is correct, UofM is the only masters program in Canada at the moment. The 2 year bachelors in mac and UofT i believe was created to make them more accessible and to also keep the initial wages down. Most programs in the states have now been converted to masters though some bachelors still exist there is also some academic creep and PhD programs are in the process of being created, things in Canada are stable at the moment and it is still a very new profession so things may change in the future.

McMaster does not require an undergraduate degree to enter the program. The minimum requirement is 2 years of a bachelor's degree, which is why the 2 year PA program awards a BHsc. I believe U of T only requires 20 credits of undergrad as well but at the time of application not admittance, so they start accepting after 3rd year.
