Irish/australia

Recommended Posts

Hi

Can someone give me guidelines about when to apply to Australia/Ireland.

I am also applying to the states(MD/DO)...and will be applying to Aus/Ire only as a last resort.

Would applying in october be too late for a September 2017 Intake for either school. I know that Aus application is now for feb 2017 intake but I want to start in Sept 2017 because I want to see if I get accepted to the states/canada.

If you want to apply for irish, you should probably look into ABP soon.

Aussie runs on a different timeline, so you'd probably have to wait until Feb 2018 is my guess? Not sure if some schools start in sept too or not.

I'd do my best to get into a US school though.

OP not sure if you've heard of them, but Oztrekk is a Canadian application information service for Canadians interested in applying to Australian med schools. It's free and they help you with your application, answer questions, even help you once you've been accepted. Might be helpful to check them out!

I second this ^^. I actually started an application with them fully expecting to be rejected from all Canadian schools. They are very helpful. For Aussie schools you don't need any written component of your application (i.e. essays, ABS, answer questions, etc ...). They just want your transcripts, pre-reqs (some schools have pre-reqs not typical of Canada (ex anatomy), so make sure you meet their requirements), MCAT score, personal info, and money. It is quite easy to complete.

For Atlantic bridge for Ireland schools, here is some info:

1. Only request an application when you think you will have time to fill it in. Your deadline to apply is a few weeks after you request the application (so it is different for every applicant), after that deadline you have to pay extra for your application.

2. The application itself is very straightforward.

3. Some schools do not interview you, might just accept you without an interview.

4. It is competitive as well (of course not as bad as Canada or US), so do not leave it till the end. Apply early.

5. When they ask for your credit card info so they can FedEx you your admission package, do not give it to them. The stuff they FedEx is the same thing as the stuff they email and they end up charging around $50 for the package.

I completed my application around end of January 2016 for Sept 2016 admission, so definitely was a little late (applied to 4 schools). I heard back from one school in April/May, and they wanted a 4000 (Euro) deposit in a week or so. I did not accept the offer since I was still waiting to hear back from Canadian schools, and I am glad I did not go through with it.

Edit: I was rejected from 2 other schools and still haven't heard back from the fourth school I applied to

I don't think any schools in Aus start in Sept. Different seasons in the southern hemisphere so their Feb/Mar start date is equivalent to the northern hemisphere's September start date (ie just after the summer holidays for both hemispheres)

that was also my understanding - but never know some schools have off cycle intakes elsewhere:)
