mononoke
I'm curious about what is the scope between the two specialties, I've seen FM practicing at a derm clinic doing what it seems like the 5 yr derm can do. What is the main difference between what can each physician do? Do they bill similarly like the case with emerg 5 yr vs +1?

medicineandy
I think that a family physician can diagnose common skin diseases. There is almost no way that a family physician has more derm experience and derm knowledge than a dermatologist.
NLengr
It has basically been said, but there is a large amount of information that is not covered in the "+1" for GPs. These gaps lead to inconsistencies in the quality of GPs with an interest in dermatology. Dermatology boards are commonly considered one of the hardest due to the depth of immunology, pathology, and dermatology that you need to know. Hahaha, I think everyone considers thier specialty as having one of the hardest Royal college exams because as far as I can tell, they're all brutal. I would never wanna do mine again I can tell you that.
