Recommendations For Next Year Applications

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I intend on applying to NOSM next year. I work full-time as a teacher & am in night school, so I don't want to cram an application all at once when the time comes. I know I'm ahead of the ball game, but do any of you have any recommendations of things I can do to get ready for an application?

What I've done so far is compile a list of verifiers for my autobiographical sketch, made a general outline (respecting the 150 character limit) of my sketch descriptions, etc.

I've been reading up on the school via their website, and found this document (http://bit.ly/2gc7jCp) for general knowledge on the school so I can refer to their values in my application.

-Are there any other recommended readings/books/articles before applying?

-Are there any questions I can prepare for on the questionnaire?

-For the sketch, is there one of the categories I should concentrate more on?

-Any courses I should take?

Any recommendation is appreciated!

*Application stats in case it helps:

-GPA of 3.59

-Context: Northern Ontario resident my entire life & educated in NO, francophone, non-official métis status (I could look into getting my status if it would help)

-EC: range of volunteering helping lower income families, full time teacher, research intern, range of citizenship & community service awards, two scholarships, YMCA employee, summer camp supervisor...

Your gpa is a bit low but your context score + EC's look solid. Definitely look into getting metis status. You have a good shot.

You can read some free resources online on medical ethics and the healthcare system if you want, but that will mostly help for the interview.

Focus illustrating the CanMEDS roles in your sketch.

Good luck!
