What Type Of Research Should I Do To Be Competitive For Anesthesia?

Hi batsman! From my understanding, relevance is helpful but not a deal Breaker! If you have more connections in anesthesia, it will be an asset! If you cannot find one in anesthesia, you will still be fine. Any research is better than none. I know of someone who did research in an unrelated field in their current specialty because they changed their mind half way through medicine. They still matched to their dream specialty! Try to get them to know your name in another way too!

I'm curious if I have an incorrect understanding though. Does someone have more insight on this?

You don't have to do research in anesthesia but working with an anesthesiologist on a research project can help you get exposure to the field. Some projects involve going into the OR with them so it's kind of like shadowing as well.

Alternatively, you can do research in related fields like Resp, Cardio...etc

However I know people who matched without research at all!
