tutgang566
Ok, this is not a humble brag or anything, I'm just curious if my scores would guarantee me a spot even if my interview was subpar (like 4th quintile), based on what people have heard from those who have gotten in or seen from the past statistics. I have a 516 on the MCAT and my AGPA is a 4.32 as an in-province student. I'm just curious since there have been no stats released from the class of 2020. next.med88
There is no way to tell if any scores would guarantee a spot since they never release interview scores for those accepted. My guess however would be no, because I know in the past some people with scores of 12.0 that didn't get in. Also the interview is worth 40%, so I would guess you must at least do average to get in with your scores. At the end of the day, you should be preparing yourself to be in the top quintile to guarantee yourself a spot
InstantRamen
I personally don't think so. the interview is worth a lot!!

I'm just nervous about my chances since I have nothing to go off of with there being no statistics available with the new MCAT being used.
InstantRamen
Last year they didn't reveal the pre-interview statistics till after the interview. They will hopefully upload them soon.
next.med88
I'm pretty sure 516 is high enough that you have a good shot, since I think a 510-512 (approximately) is an 11.0 on the old mcat score

tutgang566
Do you think the statistics will be uploaded on Jan. 6 as well?
next.med88
Oops, yes it is the 6th, I think it was the 4th last year. Honestly, they update the statistics so randomly, it is not consistent year to year when they add them. Nobody truly knows when they will update it, you would have to e-mail them yourself to find out.
Otto123
I emailed them awhile back, and they told me that they would be up near the end of November lol. So much for that lol
tutgang566
Lol a couple months late, jeez, they are just trying to make us worry lol. I heard from someone the average accepted MCAT was a 513 (not sure about the old score average). The AGPA was roughly the same average as last year, maybe 0.04 more at most. Otto123
It's probably something around there, but the stats seemed to be lower this year in comparison to previous ones. I know a few ppl that got in last year with 504-506 MCATs. Just shows you how important the interview is.
tutgang566
Wow, the interview is really significant then!

I know a few ppl that got in last year with 504-506 MCATs. Just shows you how important the interview is. This year (if you mean those that got accepted in September) was the first year they had the new MCAT, so last years 504-506 does not make sense. Also, it is very probable the people with 504-506 got accepted since I think that is probably around a 10-10.25 in the old score, and quite a few people with those scores do get in. tutgang566
I think a 10-10.25 is more around a 508 actually.
medic77
Interview is huge. I'd wager far more important than MCAT. If you fail more than 2 stations (IIRC) your out. You can get red flagged. You can be put in a really tough track of other students. It's a far better indicator to the faculty about your potential as a future physician so I'd focus more on this than anything else. You have great stats so you do have a larger error margin but I wouldn't use that as a crutch to take it lightly. Also a rural multiplier would be hugely advantageous for you (because of your higher stats) if you have any.

I unfortunately can't qualify for any rural multiplier.
next.med88
No, they do not accept a certain amount of people from a track, what I think he was getting at is that if every else in the track is very good, but you are just average, it may make you appear worse than you truly are. tutgang566
The final 2020 admissions statistics have been posted. Statistics Thanks for letting me know! Wow someone with a 498 got in from the MB pool?!?!?! Is this due to the socioeconomic and rural factors and if so, do they really make a significant difference? aspiringdoctor14
I would like to ask more questions on how someone can be considered to be in the socioeconomic background and rural factors. Can someone please direct me to a link where it talks about this? Thank you very much!
InstantRamen
There is a checklist on the application. They ask you specific questions and you either check yes or no. How much of a coefficient they give you remains unknown.
