Rejection Wording?

On my rejection letter, I was told that my MCAT was not high enough to be selected for an interview. 

However, I know people who have both higher and lower MCATs who were told that their application (not MCAT specifically) was not competitive enough.

 

Does this mean that I did not make it passed the screening process or that my application was otherwise competitive save for my MCAT?

While your application can always be improved I would take this to mean that you got hit hardest on your MCAT and to focus your energy on re-writing it as opposed to the other criteria.
