Ubc Pt School Students And Grads

Recommended Posts

I have heard that UBC pt school is very hard to get into, or that its the hardest in canada. Any truth to any of these? I mean, it might be hard to 'measure' the difficulty of getting into a school for pt so there may not be a definitive answer.

Also, for those current pt students at UBC or PT grads from UBC, how was the experience? was it really difficult?

I am currently in UBC PT and loving it. In regards to the "difficulty of getting in," it is tough to comment on because it would differ from someone who got in first try without much effort vs someone who has tried for years. Last year 383 people applied for 80 spots. Those odds are definitely not in your favour but not awful either.
I applied with a ~88% average for prereqs and my last 10 classes. I got an interview that I thought went really well and here I am. I personally think admission is based almost entirely on GPA and interview.

I was reading through old threads and though I'd answer this one, hope it helped.

I would agree that it's very difficult but definitely not the hardest as that's too hard to gauge. I didn't get in last year and was accepted this year with a GPA of (87-88%, or around 3.9/4.0) but interviewed much better the second time.

If you're a BC resident you've probably heard that it's difficult as it's typically the one that BC students apply for/talk about, thus you need a really good application to get in. If you lived in Ontario you'd probably be hearing about how U of T or McMaster is hard to get in to.

What sets UBC somewhat apart from other/Ontario schools is that they use senior level courses to calculate competitive GPA rather than your most recent 20 courses, which means you can't go and take 1st level bird courses after/near graduation to boost GPA (although I suppose you could still take 300-400 level easier courses haha). I believe they also started to not accept certain courses as pre-requisites or in GPA calculation. UBC also only accepts up to 8 OOP applicants, (so maybe you heard its the hardest to get in as an OOP?). In terms of acceptance difficulty, you should understand that many Eastern and Ontario schools are just as hard since there are a lot more applicants (thousands) for smaller class sizes (depending on the school).

No matter where you apply, physio is tough and you're going to need at least an 85% or 3.8/4.0 GPA with good references/experiences to get an interview at most schools.

Cheers
