Bliss
Hey guys, I was looking at the McMaster MD post-interview formula and it says: 70% interview, 15% GPA, and 15% CARS/VR. How do you convert the CARS/VR scores into percentages here? For example, would 132 CARS be a full 15%, while 125 CARS is like 7-8%? (same with GPA...how does it work?) is it all relative? Thanks! a7x
Its a Z score against the applicant pool. It is unknown if the Z score calculation is redone for the post interview pool (which would be skewed upwards compared to pre) and also unknown if the median gets say 7.5% with a defined SD or if its scaled some other way, so to answer your question it's relative, but how relative in a quantitative sense no one knows. schrodinger's mcat
Judging from the 2017 interview invites thread (n=37), these are the stats of the invited applicants:Average GPA = 3.87 (standard deviation 0.11)Average CARS = 128.7 (standard deviation 1.6)Since the sample size is quite small and probably biased, take it with a grain of salt. You don't even need to do this though! Mac actually releases the stats of accepted applicants here (your sample size looks so sexy and unbiased now!): http://mdprogram.mcmaster.ca/md-program-admissions/how-we-select The only caveat to this is that these are all accepted offers. Which means that this includes people all the way at the bottom of the waitlist who were invited and accepted. So just be cognizant of the fact that the averages might be slightly higher if you are aiming to recieve an offer without having to suffer through a waitlist. criston
Good point. I also think the calculation of this year's interview offers was possibly to show that the GPA of interviewees is going up! It looks like quite a few people (in this small sample size) had very high GPAs!

If you take the average reported stats I would not be surprised if they are higher than the actual stats for admitted students (if you go back previous years). Stats here are very heavily skewed. s2MD
It's still possible to get in with a low GPA at mac if you do really well on the interview!
