Does Interview Date Matter?

Recommended Posts

No I mean I had gotten an early interview but now its rescheduled to later. I want to know if they start deciding acceptances right after your interview or wait until all interviews are complete.

They have like 6-8  (IIRC) people review your file, so it definitely is whenever they get a whole bunch of files reviewed that they send out invites. I trust them on that. People have gotten in with late interviews and some have not with early ones.

checked website; md/phd acceptances are rolling (didn't know this, kind of unfortunate) but nowhere mentions rolling admissions for md

i think if you have an interview you're fine, calm down :P

MD is definitely rolling admissions and is mentioned multiple times on the site.

For example: http://md.utoronto.ca/news/admissions-blog-interview-quick-facts-2015

those say invites to interview are rolled, which i think most of us know already. doesn't mean acceptances are rolled though. md/phd explicitly states offers of admission are rolled.

Doesn't U of T lose out on selecting the "best" applicants as a result of their rolling interview invites relative to other schools calculating the total scores of all applicants before sending out invites?

Hypothetically, files that are reviewed later in the year can be objectively better than files reviewed earlier on, but are not invited for interviews based on the number of spots remaining.

I would assume they have a predetermined file "cut off" score estimated from last year.

exactly - they have stated many times that if they run into some form of an issue they will simply interview more people (if for whatever reason oddly the last batch to review is somehow of higher quality). They won't put themselves in a position where a disadvantage occurs that way.

I suspect as well with the large sample size for each interview group as well that the odds over having a superior group like that in the end is very unlikely. I mean look at how many weekends they actually have, and the vastly large number of applicants. There are not small groups.
