Minnie4
I've recently found out I'll be doing a rotation away from my main school and home, which means I'll be living far away for several weeks and I'm feeling quite anxious about it. I'm not used to being away from my partner or too far from my family for so long (> 1 month), and it's making me feel very nervous. I know many students have it much worse than I do, since I'm lucky enough to be studying in the city I come from! I'm embarrassed about feeling this way, but I can't seem to help it. I'm trying to view it as a positive experience and an opportunity for growth since I know everything will likely end up being fine, but even just thinking about it makes me feel tense. Has anyone dealt with similar feelings? How did you cope? Thank you!

schmitty
Really, this is quite common. I did several away electives and had to be away from my partner and young child for several weeks at a time. It was tough, but was just fine in the end. I video chatted when possible which helped. Also know that your feelings of apprehension and anxiety now are much worse than actually being away. I.e. the anticipation is worse than the actual experience and you'll like end up having a good break and away elective and be all the better for it!
