How Do They Calculate Gpa? Confused :/

Recommended Posts

I am really confused on how they actually calculate your GPA for med school? I am just wondering exactly how it goes? Like does it go by percentage in total like in high school average? or Gpa per course? can someone please break it down?

Like say I have an 86 average, would that be considered a 3.9? or do they take your gpa in a course (say a 3.7) and convert that to whatever it is on omsas? or say if i have an 88 in a course it gets converted to 3.9? so much confuse lol

Using the OMSAS scale, each course is converted separately to GPA. The GPAs are then (weighted-) averaged to get your cumulative GPA.

This system unfortunately requires you to do better in each of your courses, for instance, 80/80/80/80 is a higher GPA than 70/70/90/90 even though both have a cumulative 80 average.
