Elective Options During First (And Second) Year(S)

I've heard from current med students that classes end at 12:30, and many people choose to do "electives" in the afternoons. I was wondering what some examples/types of these electives are.

Electives can be done in the many different specialties offered at the Ottawa Hospital and CHEO (though you can do them in the community as well). For example, paediatric specialities, surgical specialties, cardiology, respirology, hematology, ICU, infectious diseases, public health, pathology, radiology etc.

By "electives" they just mean few hours of observing physicians practice in their specialty. If you complete 10 hours in the same specialty (usually with the same doc) you get a notice in your academic profile saying you completed an elective at specialty x.
