AAAmeds
Since they have interview dates spread out over ~30 or so days, I was wondering if they assign interview dates based on the strength of the application (earlier dates for stronger applicants) or it is pretty much randomly assigned. Thanks

flowermed
To the best of my knowledge, it is randomly assigned.
YorkU Bio 2017
Based on the (speculated) post-interview scoring for Ottawa, this shouldn't really have an impact on you. Just do your best for the interview, because that's the only thing you have control over at this point.
Ottawa_Is_life
In the past, it has been random. However, this year might have been different since the time stamps correlate with GPA/Casper strength - which makes me speculate that interview dates assignment may follow a trend too, for convenience's sake. Anyways, good luck! If your interview is competitive, you'll get in, regardless of your interview date!
ihsh
I was under the impression that Ottawa makes the final admission decision based on interview scores only (using GPA as tiebreaker). But for this year, the interview invites were solely based on GPA and Casper. So your interview date should have little bearing on your chances. AAAmeds
Thanks everyone for the replies! My interview is coming up soon, so I guess I am just worrying too much!
ThatMedGyal
I think it did correlate with the strength of your application pre-interview. After that, your slate is wiped entirely clean and every one is at the same level.
flowermed
I don't think interview date correlates with strength of application pre-interview. I know of someone with a lower GPA than myself who is interviewing before me and someone with a higher GPA interviewing after me. Also all three of us personally think that the casper went well, so I don't think there are crazy differences there in terms of performance. For now, lets all work on preparing for it and good luck everyone
EthicsForBreakfast
Hey guys, I am 90% sure it does NOT correlate with the strength of your application, but rather where you are coming from! I interviewed as an out of province applicant and on my day there was not a single person from the Ottawa area or anyone that attended UOttawa for their undergrad. It was also reading week, so I believe that if you had to travel they strategically put you on reading week and I'm sure the rest was just random as a result. To play devils advocate, I met a gentlemen from Ottawa at my interview this past week; moreover, others from my institution who interview at Ottawa are scheduled for early-mid March. This is to be taken with a grain of salt of course... nobody has a conclusive answer to this question... except perhaps for Mr. Duck!
Pyruvate123
I know 2 candidates with a gpa above 9.7 (3.97+) having their interviews late March. it's a question of luck!
Donald_Duck
It is most likely random. To challenge your theory about geographic locations, I was interviewing with 2 of my friends (all from Ottawa) and most other candidates came from outside Ottawa (this during reading week). There is no preference for GPA, Geographic locations, Casper, etc. According to many reputable sources, it is indeed random. Unlike our simplistic duck brains, humans always like to find patterns in everything... Mr Duck
