What is the best way to respond to this question? What should we focus on?

I would recommend you the following: before your MMI and interviews in general, know your research subject well. Because if you put that on your CV and people ask you about it and you don't know anything about it, you look like a fool.

Then, I would see it as an opportunity to showcase your communication skills: i.e. explaining your research in 5 sentences so a layperson can understand, since your interviewer might absolutely not have any basic knowledge about your topic. Also, do explain what was your role. Of course, if they ask you more about it, do talk more about it. But the most important thing is to be able to showcase that you can explain clearly in a simple fashion what was your research about, and to showcase that you know your subject well if they do probe.

 

Edit: i just said 5 arbitrarily. The point is that you need to be able to succintly explain your topic and what you did so that a complete newbie can understand.
