medapp_2018
Has anyone tried claiming CARMS expenses such as application fees on AFMC Student Portal?
criston
What type of deduction or credit would you propose to claim it under? As with Canada's self-reporting tax system, you can claim anything you want... the question is whether you will be audited and those expenses disallowed (and thus you may have to pay penalty and interest). medapp_2018
I was thinking I could put it under tuition tax credit? I was also thinking perhaps we claim our travel expenses for CARMS 2-4 electives under moving expenses?
NLengr
They will definitally not let you claim electives under moving expenses. As for if you can claim them under tuition credits or something I doubt you can but you could always ask an accountant. I'd check with an accountant prior to trying to claim something like that. The last thing you wanna do is get on CRA's radar because you tried to make a big ineligible claim. you don't want to be facing multiple audits or requests for more information for years to come. ralk
In our last-minute slew of financial talks, mostly given by accountants, they noted CaRMS and elective expenses are not deductable. It's just a cost of being a medical student, no real way around it.
5th time the charm
Hold on to all your receipts from Carms ... claim them in your first year of post grad... these were expenses related to getting a job.... totally legit...and you can claim moving and lodging costs ...
