Cr/d/fail - Ubc

Recommended Posts

Hey!

I'm doing that right now for one of my electives. It was an impulsive decision and never got the chance to ask admission committees before doing so.

However, I have HEARD that they don't like to see pre reqs or core courses for your major being taken on Cr/D/Fail. So if you are referring to BIOC 202/302 I would be a little cautious (but not 100% sure).

To be honest, BIOC 202/302 are (in my opinion) not as bad as the horror stories. They are quite overhyped in my opinion (kind of like CHEM 233) or maybe they were really really hard in the past.  I was able to do fine in them and like you, I'm not a sciences major and not particular test taking smart.

Thanks for the reply. I emailed admissions and can let you know when I get a response!

I thought dentistry admissions was purely a numbers game where they looked at completed courses and your average and you either make the cut or not. Unlike med where they take into account courseload, types of courses, etc, where having a Cr/D/Fail might not look as good.

Yes, it's definitely a numbers game. However, when you apply to UBC dentistry and input your classes there's two lists.

One for your normal courses, and one for your pre reqs. The lists ask for the year you took it, your grade etc.

So if one or more of your prereqs don't have a grade on them, it would be somewhat obvious since the list is quite small.

Do they care though is another story. Most friends I've talked to have told me not to use it for pre reqs (I was actually considering it for BIOC 302 once upon a time haha) but not sure if their claims have merit.
