Music For Studying?

Safi

Recommended Posts

Hey I was just wondering if anyone knows any kind of music that helps with focusing

I know it's an odd request but I currently just play a Hip Hop song and just let youtube lead me to whatever on auto-play but this can be distracting cause of the lyrics while I'm writing

Does anyone have any music they listen to, so that they can focus more while studying?

I live in a loud place so the hip hop actually is an upgrade to no music but it's not ideal

Download Spotify! It has a great selection of hiphop beats (instrumentals or hits) and many other genres. I usually listen to their piano playlist as it's a neutral background that'll make me focused and won't cloud my concentration with lyrics.

I'm gonna try the piano thing you were talking about because the lyrics can sometimes "shield" my mind and I'll be studying but the content won't be coming in but rather the lyrics

On Spotify, I like to listen to fan noises and to white noises.. It's weird, but it works like a charm!

Yeah I know some people do this, the white noise one but I tried it and it wasn't for me

Supposedly pure music without lyrics is best. I'd say whatever helps you relax without pulling your focus towards it.

Yeah I just can't find a kind that I can enjoy - classical is just not my type

I listen to instrumental hip hop or sometimes non lyrical rap. Anything else is too boring for me

That was how I felt about classical, it was too boring. I'm gonna try the instrumental hip hop off Spotify I think someone else suggested too cause it seems like a nice choice

Can you study without music? It is probably best if you minimize your multitasking. Instrumental music might be an adequate option if your environment is noisy.

I was considering instrumental music because it actually is pretty loud where I live - I don't want to deal with listening to a TV blasting near me while my families laughing and yelling at one another all while I'm trying to get my mind on some biology concept or whatever

Are the hours really bad for going to a coffee shop or other public place in your location (I guess if you're semi-rural)?

Or why can't you save up for some HPE - hearing protecting equipment (could use ear plugs or ear muffs). Get some sort of quality device, maybe industrial grade that helps prevent ear damage like the workers use for heavy machinery, (some tools can be only 25 decibels from eardrum rupture). Take a look on amazon or wherever you can get a good pair. I say get your hands on this, your future might depend on it.

If these options still don't work, I have to ask, have you ever studied for courses like these with music before? I ask because I personally would never be able to study with music unless it was for math or physics. But even then I would only be able to do it for operations in math or physics that I already learned previously. Couldn't imagine reading textbooks or notes on brand new subject material while listening to anything I enjoy listening to. Way too distracting for me.

Honestly, I am capable of learning with music and am still in high school so these marks are likely not that impressive but managed to get an overall average of about 90 last semester while listening to music (Courses were Advanced Functions, English, Data Management and Chemistry).

But, I know I can learn BETTER without music - I am able to focus semi-well with music because when music is not playing I am 100% concentrated and I know I can do better

I can work at the library or a coffee shop however because of the neighborhood I live in (Not the best area) they're all pretty loud and the laptop I have (a Chromebook) I have limited access to what I use at home when I'm on my PC at home

The ear plug idea is nice and I didn't think of that, to be honest

Awesome!! :) yeah I guess that's your best bet then. And no worries about not knowing, in university if you live with roommates because of financial constraints or social reasons then there can be quiet people living with loud people. So ear protection has definitely helped a lot of people study! It's not marketed that way but I know people who've needed to do this. Let us know how it goes!!

I also get really distracted by lyrics if I'm trying to study! My personal favourites on Youtube include :

- Wind and a crackling fireplace

- Rain

- Pride and Prejudice soundtrack

- Theory of Everything soundtrack

I guess they're kind of odd choices but they work great for me! :)

Even if you're not a gamer, would you ever consider video game music? There are some great playlists on Youtube (Spotify's a great recommendation but I find that Youtube is fine for music as long as you have UBlock or something to keep you from hearing all about Pantene Pro-V and the newest Mazda).

A lot of it is specifically designed with concentration/focus in mind, it's minimally distracting (couldn't be in a game if it were) and it's non-lyrical by nature.

I do game but I play things like League and CSGO so haven't heard much music - is there any music you recommend to try first?

Seems like an interesting idea to be honest
