Switching Line Of Credit

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Matched to my dream specialty but will be moving to a different province.

So far RBC hasn't done much for me - I didn't use the Avion card very much in first year, have a signature card, and overall the points that they offered can't even get me a one-way flight to Alberta.

I want to switch my LoC and take full use of a good VISA card, particularly since I'll be spending a lot in the first month for the move, furniture, car winter tires, etc., and I want to optimize the amount of points I get for flights back home to visit the family.

Can anyone recommend a good rep from Scotiabank in the TO area?

Anyone who has switched LoC's...any tips so that I don't get scammed by RBC?

Thanks everyone :)

Just wanted to say that if you are moving out west and will be flying a lot, perhaps look into the RBC WestJet World Elite? $250 westjet dollar sign up bonus, free checked-baggage for you and 8 guests, and a companion voucher per year which means a flight for one other person for $99 within north america (plus taxes, fees). I also matched out of province and both my spouse and I got this card. It was instantly worth it over our infinite avion (that has actually served us well).

Just want to follow up - RBC reps were absolutely terrible in terms of negotiating.   There is no single advisor "designated" to my account and they literally replied with "if you're having trouble just talk in any branch", and couldn't understand at all why my line of credit was "any different".

I had two advisors switch and my last one suddenly left without notifying me at all at RBC.

I really regret going with RBC completely. Should have went with Scotiabank at the beginning of med school.

That sounds annoying.

All you really should have to do is go to scotiabank, meet with an advisor and they will help you take care of paperwork to move over your LOC balance from RBC to a new LOC with scotia.

Thanks man...do you know if there's any effect on credit score at all for the switch and cancelling credit cards?

Hey schmitty, wanted to confirm something with you re the WJ Elite card. I also signed up for one few weeks ago. Do you know if you get an additional companion voucher when getting a  co-applicant card? I was under the impression that one would based on the online reviews, but it seems that its one companion flight voucher per WJ membership account.

The co-applicant additional card doesn't get another companion voucher from what I have read. My spouse is just applying on her own so we will have two separate, non-joint, cards, and thus both get the $250 bonus and 2 companion vouchers each year.
