Ever Tought Of Getting Tipsy Before Interviews ?

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody tought (or did) drink few shots before interviews. Just enough to still be in control. But enough to be confident. I was thinking that it will boost your confidence in the interviews, you'll respond with more tact and look more sincere but still be in control to be able to think of your answers. Overall, you'll be more confident and have more presence.

Is it a good idea ? It seems like one to me...

Please give your opinions

Yeah, make sure you do that with your patients too. But not too much though. Just enough to still be in control. But enough to be confident. Who knows, it might boost your confidence with your patients, you'll respond with more tact and look more sincere but still be in control to be able to think of your answers. Overall, you'd be more confident and have more presence.

That would be an interesting tactic ha - objectively I am not sure it would work. Confidence is important but you are taking a hit to your cognitive load which is what is being evaluated.

I would agree the best solution is simply practice. Eventually everything just becomes automatic.

Hypothetically, the best drug would be a psychostimulant like Adderal. In the first uses, amphetamine tend to boost self-confidence, enhance cognitive functionment and give the feeling of a great well-being. But then what? Remember that every step along the way in medicine is a bit harder than the last. Why not use a little bit again to gain a bit of confidence to help in the finals? for the OSCE? during clerkship to impress yours attending by your "vitality"? during your residency interview? during a conference? etc...

Substance abuse can go a long way... it's a slippery slope. If you feel that you need to use alcohol or drugs to feel good during MMI or anything else, maybe you should discuss that with a psychologist and/or a family doctor. It really sounds like an anxiety disorder.

I know you were probably joking.

Cheers ;) and good luck.
