now i get why alota fam docs never do bw

In general, physicians today still order too much blood work, even when it's not likely to be useful or affect their current management of an issue. Those who are either very cautious, or very aggressive, in their practice styles are more likely to do this. The current, albeit slow, trend toward decreasing utilization of resources is in part evidence-driven, and also from an increasing awareness of the cost involved. In many cases, getting bw is simply not indicated, and has nothing to do with a lack of personal compensation.
