Mcat For Fall 2018

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anyone has any insight as to whether or not the MCAT will be required for English stream applicants for the next admission cycle. This year we came close so I'm wondering if maybe next year is the year they're planning on implementing it. Basically need to decide now whether or not I need to sell my soul for the summer and start studying. My goal is UOttawa or McGill and both don't require the MCAT so I'd like to avoid if possible :)

It will not be required for this application cycle (2017-2018), 99.99% confirmed. In terms of the application cycle following that (2018-2019), it is still in immense debate.

You can rest easy that you don't have to slave away in a cave all summer :P

Mr Duck

How are you so sure about this if I may ask? I don't see any information regarding the 2017-18 application cycle on their website

Don't doubt the duck 0.0 For real though they have posted that the MCAT is not required on the FAQs and its May so it's too late even if they decide to implement it only for English stream applicants for this application cycle. Applications open in July...

I also have a source within who told me that it would be too late to implement even if they wanted to.

Bruhh you must be new here. You will go through several stages. First you will ignore the duck. You will doubt the duck and deny the duck's wisdom. You will be angry at the duck for how could he know? Slowly you will come to see that he only speaks the truth. That he is a valuable source of information and that he does indeed know.

If they decide to implement the MCAT last minute it would not be for this application cycle but the next. I would be curious to see if their "study" of applicants' MCAT scores yielded anything. My duck ears tells me that the Casper implementation did almost nothing to differentiate between candidates with good interview scores, I doubt implementing the MCAT will do anything better as well.

I really like what the dean of Medicine at Western said this year (I am not quoting him well but he said something in the lines of): It would make no difference if we accepted all 100 of you today vs if we picked 100 random people off the streets as candidates for Medicine.

In some ways, hes right. What Laval Medicine did this year is as close to this 100 random candidates as ever: they did not interview a single person this year. Just some food for thought.

the randomness is something to keep in mind if you don't get in during a particular year. On the edge it is incredibly hard to pick someone out - both from a point of view of even defining what makes a good candidate, and later now to actually measure if they meet that criteria.
