Cantoune
Hi, I've recently learned about the CNFS French stream and I was wondering if anyone has any insights on which stream offers any advantages or disadvantages to getting in? I am perfectly bilingual and eligible for the CNFS. Thanks!
Donald_Duck
If you are OOP the CNFS stream will be much less competitive than the English stream. Provided that when you say you are perfectly bilingual, that you actually are perfectly bilingual because keep in mind that you have to write your Casper in french, interview in french and do your whole med school in french. The french is probably the biggest hurdle for the CNFS applicants so if you are fluent in french you are already at a huge advantage. 8 spots are reserved for CNFS students. If my memory serves right they interview 14-16 candidates for those spots but I cannot say I am 100% certain about those stats. In the regular french stream (for Ontario and Quebec applicants) they interview 90 for 40 spots so it makes sense that its a similar ratio. Maggie19
24 applicants in the CNFS stream were invited for the interview this year!
Donald_Duck
Still better ratio than English, and keep in mind that they eliminate quite a few from what I hear because they don't end up speaking french... Perhaps this is why they started increasing the number of interviews haha Mr Duck
Maggie19
Oh really? I didn't know that lol
Cantoune
Thanks for the info! My first language is French so I'm not worried about the language at all haha. Do any of you know how many apply through CNFS stream though? like any stats from the previous years? I couldn't find those on the website, thanks! Maggie19
If I remember correctly, Chantal said there was around 80 applications this year, but I'm not 100% sure!
EthicsForBreakfast
Is the only requirement for CNFS French and OOP? I didn't attend a french university but I work at a french hospital in a francophone community and was designated bilingual by a governing body in Manitoba
Maggie19
I'm pretty sure the only requirements are being able to communicate fluently in French (written and oral), and being Out of Ontario + Out of Quebec.
Donald_Duck
Thats correct. 80 would make sense, would give you a 10% ratio of acceptances which is decent. And again the fact that you actually speak french is very good haha. GIve it a shot for sure. Mr Duck
