OldManLogan
Are classes in medical school similar to those in undergrad where the professor tells you what textbooks to purchase? Or do students just buy whatever books they think will help them learn the content?
rmorelan
most have recommended texts but it is a lot more open than UG. You are usually guided by the students above you.
OldManLogan
That makes sense. Thanks for the response!
bearded frog
Don't buy anything until you get there and talk to upper year classmates about what they used. Most schools have many textbooks available online for free through the library, and there are usually pdfs of textbooks floating around the student body. freewheeler
Textbooks = expensive paperweights Wait till you have spent at least a few weeks if not longer in med school before buying anything.
OldManLogan
Thanks for the help everybody! Just to add onto this question, is there anything that we should be purchasing before school starts (ie. stethoscope, other medical tools, etc)? bearded frog
Generally they will have a time to order stethoscopes during orientation at a preferred rate. You don't need other medical tools, and even if you do want them I would hold off until you get there. Focus on getting everything else in your life sorted, appointments, chores, etc, so you can hit the ground running. Maybe some clinic/hospital appropriate clothes if you've rocked sandals and t-shirts until now. The only thing that might come in handy is a new computer/tablet if yours is old and busted.
