Guys, just a reminder, please please please DO post your stats for current/future references.... it helps like we could never imagine... i start with mine and will edit this post once results are out: Accepted/Refused/Waitlisted: TBD cGpa: 4.0 sGpa: 4.0 thoughts on MMI: this is a grey area imo, tried to answer as thoughtfully as I could, one or two stations did throw me off a little bit, felt great about 5-6 stations. Overall satisfied with how I performed, then again, I’m not sure what they are “specifically” looking for... IP/OOP: OOP Year/degree if obtained: UG completed

TIME STAMP: 2:50PM PST March 19th, 2019 Interview Date: Apr 7, 2019 Result: Interview (MD) cGPA: 3.75 wGPA: 3.8-ish (I don't really know how to calculate, UBC does percentages and counts credits differently) MCAT: 522 (131/128/132/131, after many retests...) ECs: PM me, or dig through my old posts. Variety of things, some long term but mostly entry-level service-industry jobs, some random gigs, and basic level clinical research work. 2 abstracts, 1 undergrad thesis, no pubs otherwise. Some sports, but not competitive. Essays: tbh I wrote them the night before they were due. I absolutely hated writing the essays each year, it was like pulling teeth... I also have received rejects every year right around this time so I kinda went into essay writing thinking it was futile (I pretty much only did the rest of OMSAS because I was already applying for Queens) To anyone reading this - I do not recommend doing that. I did, however, relate each prompt to my personal story, life, experiences and lessons learned and perhaps this year's prompts allowed me to relate, and thus write, better. OOP, BSc 2017

    Moving to Newfoundland worth it?

There are 30 Dal seats in Saint John and 10 seats at MUN (St. John's) for NBers (NB Population 770k) There are 60 seats at MUN for NFLD students (NFLD population 525k)

You'd have better luck joining the Canadian forces to be considered in province virtually everywhere. St. John's is kind of like Saskatoon on the ocean if that floats your boat

last year people said they received calls I think between 9-10 and Minerva updates were after 10. Although it all depends on the dean's availabilities because they want to make the calls before anything else!

Status: IP Accepted on 3rd try Timestamp: 11:22 GPA: 3.2 undergrad, 4.0 grad with pending publications MCAT: 504 My stats are on the lower side but I have a strong and steady trajectory and a high master's. I also have a lot of EC and felt really good about my interview. I am getting a bit of imposter syndrome writing this, but want it to be here for anyone who is in the same position that I was. Don't give up! You'll get there.

From what I recall in volunteering from previous interviews there were somewhere around 360ish students there
  29. 1 point
Definitely. I think those receiving interview invites during this period are more anxious than those that didn't have the misfortune of waiting this long, so the built-up anxiety makes us more active on this forum and thus, more likely to post if we got an invite lol

    Moving towards 8 week cap?

The way it was explained to us is that it'll even out the playing field a little bit since you can still be a "competitive" applicant for a specialty even if you decide later on during medical school and didn't already plan for multiple electives in that specialty, as well as increase your competitiveness for a backup specialty in CaRMS. Essentially the hope by admin at my school is to increase the total match rate, even if matching rate to top 1-3 choices decreases (because let's be honest, that's what UGME really cares about at the end of the day it seems).

    2019 CaRMS unfilled spots

Calling this thread derailed is now an understatement, but since I'm not a moderator, I don't have a duty or compulsion to keep it on track, so here are my 2 cents: 1. The annual IMG/CSA witch hunt is ultimately born out of fear, namely the fear of the remote-but-not-zero possibility that CMGs have of going unmatched. As a general rule of thumb, when things get tough people don't blame themselves, they blame someone or something else first. The residency spots set aside for non-Canadian grads is the first and most obvious target. 2. Matching as a CSA is a high risk/high reward endeavor. Everyone sees the reward part. Let's say that matching is analogous to crossing a river. Everyone sees the 20 who made it across. They don't see the other 80 who drowned, or the shark-infested water they tried to swim through. Everything is worked for. Nothing is free. This isn't "skipping the line"; it's going into an entirely different line with its own problems. 3. The quality of international medical schools can be debated, but it's all irrelevant. There are checks and balances. Everyone has to meet the same academic standard when applying for Canadian residency spots, and everyone has to interview and not look like a clown when doing so. Everyone then has to be chosen in a process that they have no direct control over. 4. It's true that the average successful IMG/CSA has above average financial resources, but historically so have most CMGs. This profession naturally tends to select for such a cohort. Full disclosure: I am a CSA who matched and finished residency.

    Med-P 2018

Salut, Je suis collégien, j'ai appliqué pour Med-P et mon minerva dit ceci: Cependant, je n'ai pas encore reçu la lettre officielle....est-ce que je suis in? ou ça se peut que ce soit liste d'attente?

I have been following the discussion and no matter what the statistical outcomes may be, one thought stays in my mind : The faculty had access to the pre-req scores of almost all candidates (except those with pending ones). Therefore, I doubt they would interview someone if they knew that their pre-reqs score would absolutely prevent them from an admission. Of course, a high pre-req GPA is a nice safety while a low one adds uncertainty. I think it's better to stop worrying because really, we are all in the same boat. I mean, how many people with a 4.0 and strong CV were rejected pre-interview? Good luck to all !:)

Funny story here, I forgot to disable the notifications for replies. So every time you guys reply, I get an email with the title "interview invites, regrets blah blah". I get a mini heart attack every time before I get a chance to read that it says premed101.Dammit!
