  1. Hi there, I think you are referencing to two different funds. The Schulich Admissions Bursary is a first year bursary, they give you somewhere between 1200-4200$ to support you. This is a one time sum. The Schulich Scholarship re: 25000$ is an opportunity only given to needs-based individuals. If you are chosen as one of those individuals, this scholarship is renewable yearly, pending you pass everything. Either way, neither of my parents support me financially at all and I still had to list them both back when I applied for the admissions bursary. I would call finances to ask just in case to clarify. Cheers.
  2. If you take 2.5/5 3rd and 4th year courses in third year and say 4.5/5 4th year courses in fourth year, your third year is still disqualified. This was my case. Having extra senior level courses in fourth year does not make up for the third year deficit unfortunately.
  3. Hey Calgary Meds, I'm visiting a ton of family and friends in Calgary from July 21-28 and it's somewhere I would consider scoping out for residency. I was wondering if any meds were around and could maybe show me around a bit. I promise to buy you a coffee/other beverage hahaha and also a swap if you ever need to tour Western/Schulich. I was told earlier that this is right in the middle of the first years O-Week, so I totally understand if no one is free but I thought I would try and throw it out there in case someone happened to be around! Cheers.
  4. Oh no! I completely forgot about the early start and annual backpack colour surprise that Calgary kicks off. Let me know if anyone is around, no worries if it's too much of a hassle!

  6. After talking with some students in my class: ~17 students get it. It's needs based meaning a full review of both yours and your parents financial information goes underway (inclusive of listing all assets, stocks bonds etc.) You are also asked for an essay explaining why you are needs based. Assuming you get your application on time, all candidates who apply are assessed and you can also assume that your academics are fine because you got in. The academics part really applies more to continue the scholarship past 1st year.
  7. Hey I would definitely encourage you to apply. They are likely re-shuffling the MCAT criteria this year but I don't expect that the BS will be a 12 again!
  8. Whether or not facebook is a good judge, we're looking at just over 120 people with 50 who rather haven't found the page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/883333585025901/) or spots still remaining hang on to hope!!!
  9. I take all hand written notes and buy the course packs. I have a printer but trust me, the cost for buying paper and ink will be more expensive. If you plan on printing on your own you probably want to get a colour laser printer with cartridges that last a long time! It's well worth it to buy course packs as you see fit
  10. They do flat out reject. It's just unlikely that anyone posts about it because it's difficult to deal with. ~470 applicants interview and we take 171; not everyone is on a wait list
  11. Haha I would say about 45-50 of us are 2017s pumped to meet you guys Embrace the purple haha also MANY MANY CONGRATS!!!
  12. CONGRATS EVERYONE!!! It has begun! Make sure you join up the facebook group !!!
  13. Sorry for the misinformation earlier. They should be trickling out now (and definitely before 5pm, we went and asked; they did not give us specifics but said it's definitely coming out today!!) Also, please check your junk mail folders! -->acceptances came in waves last year as well so someone posted above us that they have one, they will start trickling through. ^^and yes Kathy Sadler is one of the admissions email ladies; not trolling
  14. This is total speculation but we are sitting in lecture getting a talk by our Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education (deals with student affairs)... haha maybe they are just waiting on his thumbs up to hit send... If that happens to be the case for reasons unknown to us, we finish lecture at noon today. According to people in our class acceptances have started to go out... SIDE NOTE: CHECK YOUR SPAM/JUNK filters... my acceptance went to my spam last year and I noticed it around 130pm but in reality it was sent/dated around 830am. Even though I had added their email address.
  15. Haha me too, but anything could happen. The year before Queen's had a problem with their invites... sadly, this is nothing new lol.
